Wean from Risperdone

My 7 year old son stopped taking Adderall XR about a month ago.  Since then he has gained 8 pounds because he is still on Risperdone .75 mg daily.  His appetite is non-stop!    We as parents want to take him off Risperdone to see if he can handle it.  We just don't know how to go about doing it.  We are in between psychiatrists due to an insurance change.  I'm going to call his pediatrician for a recommendation until we can see the new psych!  Any suggestions?

Thanks for the advice.  I left a message for his ped.  He has officially gained 9 pounds in one months time while taking Risperdone alone (no longer taking Adderall XR which had offset the appetite).  Also taking Valproic Acid to control seizures and Paxil for anxiety.  Thanks again!

I know these meds can make children either eat like crazy or not have an appetite at all. You have the right idea. It really is best to work with a Dr when weaning from these meds. His pediatrician should be able to help you with the taper.
