Weird Headaches

For the past two weeks I've been experiences random sharp pains in the Right top part of my head.  They were mild at first and I've noticed a directo correlation between stress.  When I get stressed they seem to go worse and happen more often.  Its to the point where I'm am constantly worried about the headaches.  When I don't have one, I'm thinking about when it will start up again.  When I do have one I'm thinking of all the possible things that are wrong with me; brain anyurism, cancer.  Its to the point where the constant worry is taking over and making me sick to my stomach.

The headaches always occur in the car when I'm driving because that is where I do most of my thinking.  That gives me plenty of time to think about what is wrong with me and usual ends in a panic attack.

I've been to the doctor and he was less concern about the headaches and very hastily perscribed me Lexapro.  My family has a strong history of depression and anxiety (I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder in hs, but haven't had many problems since going off meds about 5 years ago).

My question is should I just take the anxiety meds or could this truely be an underlying health problem?  I'm just worried that the doctor over looked the head pain.

I think I'd be a little suspect of my doctor (or ANY, for that matter) who more or less blew off the MAIN reason I'd come to see them in the first place. For him to have "hastily" prescribed Lexapro, I'm guessing that much of your conversation centered around depression and anxiety. If that WAS the case, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, and go with the assumption that he saw your headaches as a simple adjunct to the depression/anxiety. If you feel that you have been wrongly diagnosed, then waste no time getting back with him to discuss this in greater detail, making sure he takes your headaches into greater consideration. Perhaps a visit to a neurologist would not be out of the question..........you could certainly broach the idea to your doc and remember, it is your right to request a referral to a specialist. I think you first need to rule out any underlying cause for these headaches, then tackle the depression/anxiety issue.
Keep up posted, OK?
