What are the side effects of reducing dose of alprazolam tablet ?

Hello, I am 24 year old female and have pain all over the body, mostly in legs and back. Diagnosed as anxiety neurosis.Doctor prescribed me alprazolam 0.25 mg twice in a day.I took it for a month, only missed dose for 2 days.I feel drowsiness, pain in back side of head. So,now I am taking only one dose at night.Still I am having headache, feels like something is moving in my head.Feeling like life is boring. Is these are withdrawal symptoms ? Please help. Thank you.

If I get you completely you're saying the problem started before you cut back on the drug.  Is this true?  If so, then no, that part of it isn't withdrawal.  However, cutting back when you've been taking it regularly can cause withdrawal symptoms, though you also might not get any.  Slowly tapering down is best.  And don't quit completely without tapering.

Thanks for quick reply. Yes light headache and leg pain problem was there before starting medicines. However headache(skull pain) is increased after cutting back the dose.
I would connect with the pharmacist or the manufacturer about your taper method too. If it is supposed to be taken twice daily then it seems taking the regular dose once instead could be shocking your body each time. You didn't say how long you have been on this new method of taking it but if you let them know as that will be important too.
Self-prescribing your own dosage is not recommended.
I am taking new dose from 4-5 days.My doctor asked to reduce dose gradually that is half to the routine dose. So, I am now taking only one dose of 0.25 mg.Is it wrong ? I will also check with my doctor once again.
I can't advise you as a chat line poster, but see there are different dosing patterns for different issues anyway. Some are just 1 per day so maybe you are doing it the way your doc wants now. Some are 3 times per day.

The speed of a successful taper is totally dependent on the person, not the doctor's predetermined schedule.  Some people are very sensitive, some don't notice.  You are the only you.  I know that my psychiatrist would not have decreased the dosage in half right away -- she might have said, cut it in half every other day or every third day and see what happens, as an example of a slow taper.
