What the hell?

Two nights ago I went through my regular routine and jumped in bed to go to sleep. After closing my eyes and taking a deep breath I jumped up and was afraid my heart stopped beating. It didn't. Everytime after that I tried to fall asleep I would jump up and be all freaked out about nothing. My heart was pounding and I just felt like something was wrong although nothing was wrong physically. It was just a scared feeling. That has never happened before. And ever since then there seems to be a haze over my grasp on reality and my vision is jittery. It feels like I am high on drugs but the only medicine I take is Allegra for allergies and this never happened before. Also, I feel slight pressure in my head. It is pretty scary and it worsens when I am tired or sitting still for long periods of time. If I am busy I don't really notice it. Everything is normal (appetite, bowel movements, conversational skills, motor skills, thought processes) I just feel cloudy like I have a fever or something similar. My blood pressure and heart rate are normal. What could it be? I am afraid there may be something wrong with my brain. I have done my fair share of recreational drugs, but not for months and months. Could it be linked to that? I also had an ear infection about a month ago, but that got cleared up. Could it be a relapse? Any advice would help. I think I'm going to the doctor on Monday to make sure I'm okay.

I'll keep this brief. What you described sounds like you had a panic attack (panic attacks can happen any time), followed by the usual "fear cycle" that kicks in. This steady level of fear will and can give you that "disconnected" feeling that you described. Good luck.
What helped me the most was Lucinda Bassett's Anxiety Program
(I don't work for her, trust me), regular therapy, and Ativan in an emergency.

Try switching allergy meds. Allergy season is stronger today than last month.

Yes.  Go to the doctor.  Get checked out physically.  That's important.  If everything is negative talk to him/her about anxiety.  I don't know how "recreational" you were with your drug use (and I doubt it's withdrawals) but my anxiety came on when I quit an addiction to pain pills so it's hard to say exactly.
