What's wrong with me???

I just tried to sleep, and I started to have a dream. I got this strange feeling of terror although the dream wasn't scary. I tried to wake up, and images and sounds from the dream started appearing around me in my room. The panic only increased, and I finally managed to wake up. This happened two more times, and I'm afraid to try sleeping again. This is the first time I've experienced this, and I'm not on any type of drugs, medication, or anything. What's wrong with me? What do I do?

You didn't give much information about yourself, but I'll assume you are middle age or younger.

My guess is you were still asleep when you saw and heard dream scenes in your room, i.e., you were dreaming you were awake, or your conscious mind became active in parallel with dreaming - you were Lucid Dreaming.   If that is the case you are just one step away from taking conscious control of you dream - look up Lucid Dreaming on the web, in particular I like the work by Stephen LaBarge (not sure of the last name) of Stanford U.

Yeah, but I'm usually under a lot of stress. I hope that's it, though. I don't want to lose my mind.

I was sort of paralyzed because I couldn't move; I could open my eyes, though, and see and hear things from my dream in my room.
