Why doc treating depression when I have anxiety?

My doctor has said that I have major depression and that is what's causing my anxiety. But I honestly don't feel in anyway depressed. I've had anxiety since I was 8 or 9 (im 21) but im pretty content with my life right now.

So I was on effexor was depression for over 3 months. I didn't feel any change in mood, and it did nothing for my insomnia. Now my doc prescribed wellburtin and said if this works we can ween you off the effexor. I was supposed to take them together but I ran out of effexor, and I was waiting a week to get another appointment with my doctor, and now I think the effexor is out of my system. Luckily I didn't have any withdrawal when I stopped, but perhaps its because I started Wellburtin right away.

Wellburtin has,has increased my anxiety A LOT. Made my insomnia worse and side affects are worse than effexor. BUT i've only been on it for a week. My question is why am I being prescribed depression medication when treating my anxiety? and should I be taking something else with Wellburtin to combat my anxiety, mainly go back on Effexor? For got to add I have cloazapan to take in the morning and evening but it doesn't do a thing for me either. Finally wanted to know how long I should take Wellburtin for it to start working?

Any help is appreciated, this trial and error stage really *****!

Im taking anti-depressants for my anxiety.  Since they often come hand in hand and the same hormones are involved, anti-depressants can be very effective at treating anxiety.  Im on the anti-depressent Pristiq...actually, it has gotten rid of my anxiety 95% and it hasnt helped my depression at all! Thats just my experience with antidepressants and everyone is different.  It should take about 6 weeks for the meds to get into your system and for you to start feeling the results.  Good luck, i know how frustrating the process of finding the right meds are.  But once you find out what works for you, you will be very thankful!
I wish you well

My depression spells trigger my panic attacks. The medication sort of works in the same general ways.

One if the reasons you feel the new meds aren't helping-sometimes it takes 3-6 months to even work into your system. As for being diagnosed with depression, a lot of people with depression also suffer from depression. Treating the depression will lessen the anxiety, and even if you don't feel depressed, I would continue on the meds for a few more months. Welburtin is also used to help people quit smoking, so you could consider it an anti-anxiety pill LOL
