It sounds like you may have what's called social anxiety and therapy works very well to overcome this disorder.
Dry mouth is a very common symptom.
Check with your doctor to rule out any physical cause for these feelings and ask for a referral to a good psychologist.

I have heard of this. It is a fear of strange people watching you eat. People can fear alot of different unrealistic things. I am afraid of spiders. Even little ones and ones that cannot hurt me even if they tried. I do my best to stay away from places that spiders are likely to be. That's just how I handle it. I think you need a different approach. Try sitting in a corner table, or a section with very few people in it. Sit with your back to strangers. Concentrate on having a good time with your friends. When it's time to eat, take small bites that are easy to chew and swallow. Continue to chat over your meal. Don't obsess over feeling 'weird'. I hope this helps. Blessings - Blu
