Valdoxan antdepressant

Dear Dr Kokil, I have been perscribed Valdoxan anti depressant for my generalised anxiety and depression accompanied with insomnia. I live in Turkey. I have been taking the medicine for 25 days now and if anything, my insomnia got worse and anxiety has only slightly decreased. I have a meeting with my doc on Friday and would it be OK for me to ask to be switched to another medicine? I doubt this medicine will start working for me anytimw soon. I used to take Cipram for the same problems but doctor switched to this due to less side effects. Thank you,

Hi yes I had been on Cipram (Citalopram) for many years before and it had worked. The only downside is whenever I quit it, panic and anxiety comes back again. I will be going to see my doctor this thursday and plan to ask him to switch the medication (back to cipram or cipralex - which apparently is a newer version of cipram). Would that be a good decision you think?

I'm not familiar with this medication, and after reading about it, I'm not seeing ANYWHERE that it's also indicated for treatment of anxiety.  Everything I've read talks about treatment for depression:

Have you tried any other medications?

Definitely talk to your doctor.  It may be that you need a higher dose to see improvements.  What is your dose?  Are you seeing a therapist at all for your anxiety?  That's really important.

Let us know what the doc says!
