Call your doctor. So many of us wait until next appointment. The doctor takes phone calls. That way we don't have to go without medication. You are coming down from the medication without having to. Call your doctor and get him/her to write a prescription or call it in to the pharmacy. Don't put yourself threw withdrawals and starting all over if the med has been helping you. The doctor will help you. Don't wait.

I have been on Prestiq for about a month now.

Week 1:   was a blur of feeling hazy, a bit nauseated, and lack of energy.  Constipation has become an issue

Week 2:  mild nausea, the ability to only sleep about 6 hours a night. But a strange new ability to complete tasks.  Like EVERYTHING.  With calm assurance.  Granted, I didn't notice this myself, my daughter mentioned it to me.  And no, she had no idea I was on a prescription.

Constipation is STILL an issue and I've begun chewing 4 fiber tablets a day, upping my intake of water to 6 bottles.

Week 3:  Nausea gone and I find I need to leave my pills in front of my computer so I remember to take them at 5 when I get up.  I actually looked in the mirror during that week and was floored that I had somehow become like everyone else.  That THIS was how the rest of the world felt.

Week 4:  This is where I am now.  The end of week 4.  My only major issue is constipation still.  But here is the thing....

I was prescribed to as I had gone through SIX family deaths in 8 months.  As in brothers, sisters and 1/2 siblings.  Mother in late stage breast cancer and my last brother had just suffered a major stroke.  This was prescribed to help deal with my depression (obviously) and my anxiety.

Well folks, I'm here to tell you that you can't take ANYTHING foreign into your body without some kind of reaction.  Mild nausea, a few nights of lack-luster sleep and some constipation is a dang small price to pay for my sanity.

My ability to continue to take care of my extended family, excel at work, take-up my work-out routine once again and just my all-around-feeling of contentment was So worth the trade off.

Bonus 1:  Not one migraine in a month.  Not one.

Bonus 2:  No more hot flashes

Bonus 3:  This drug also works for ADHD!!!

Hi all,
I had been on Effexor XR for about 2 1/2 years for anxiety and panic attacks and it actually worked great. The only side effect from that was sleepiness. Sometimes, usually around mid-afternoon, I would just hit a wall and would feel extremely sleepy. Recently I lost my job and my insurance. My Doctor told me about Prestiq, he said it was like the "Son of Effexor"m basically the same type of drug, made by the same company, and said that he could try me on it and supply me with samples for at least 6 months.
I started Prestiq about 10 days ago. The first day I actually felt great, even energized. The next several days however, I started having dizzy spells, feeling nauseated, and slightly anxious. I actually thought maybe I had the stomach flu because I felt so crappy!
The last few days or so I am starting to "even out" a little bit. I still have some slight dizzy spells, especially when I'm driving in a car! The nausea has pretty much gone away. I am feeling somewhat anxious and  moody so I am going to contact my Doc and let him know what is going on and how Prestiq is making me feel. Maybe 50mg isn't enough or maybe Prestiq isn't for me.
I hope you all find the perfect medicine to help you through this time in your life. Effexor was wonderful, it helped me so much. If you haven't tried that, ask your Doctor and see what he thinks about it.
God Bless,

Thomas

Prestiq nearly killed myself and my kids.  I was on this stuff for about three months and in the last few weeks, I hit the side of an 18 wheeler, hit a curb and busted two tires one time, hit another curb and busted another tire, nearly rear ended cars at lights several times and ran off the road numerous times.  I also lost my job and I finally realized what this stuff was doing to me.  If you read posts about this on the internet, you'll see what a lot of people are saying.. the same and they are also having very difficult times getting off of it.  People, please be aware of how this medication is effecting you before it is too late!  If you start trying to fall asleep at the wheel or have sever dizziness, it just gets worse and get off of it!  I am very hurt for what this medication has caused for me.  I hope they get it off the market before people get killed.  No offense to the people that it seems to be helping, I just hate to see people get hurt.

I am 20 years old and I have been on Pirstiq a little over a month now and I really like it. It has helped greatly with my depression but I am not quite sure it is helping to well with my anxiety, (which was my main concern.) I may be talking to my Dr. soon to see what else is out there. I haven;t had any increase in appetite which I did have with Paxil CR. and I have not had any headaches or light headiness which I had with Effexor XR. So far its really good for depression. and I am still working on my free samples. :-]
hope this helps you!

Yeah me too have just been giving pristiq after taking 300mg of effexor for 8 mnths. What I experience is the nausea and loss of appetite. I do have some issues like talking too much or getting anxious. But hopefully this will go away in my second week.

Im 17 and i was on Zoloft, which gave me several side effects. I went in to the doctor to see if i could try something else and he gave me three week's of samples, because he said i should " feel it working usually by the second week".

I had no real side effects with this medicine, i did kind of get lethargic and just kind of numb to the world, but it got better. In all, i really like this medicine, and it has worked for me, better than Zoloft and Lexepro.

I havnt been able to get ahold of my doctor, so i havnt gotten a prescription for it yet.

Ive been without Pristiq in my system for 4 days now, and i have been a wreck. Ive been having vivid nightmares, and suicidal thoughts.

This medicine is the real deal, so if someone out there tries it and decides it's not the right medication for you, be careful when getting off of it, because it will mess with your head.

For the first time in over 20 years, I finally feel hopeful.  I feel happy.  I feel confident and able to not only "deal" with the world, but take the world on.
I have Prestiq to thank for that.
I experienced frequent headaches for the first few weeks when I started taking it, but they were easily taken care of with Goody's headache powder.
I recommend Prestiq to anyone whose doctor might recommend it.
I've gone through hell using medication that either didn't work or whose side effects were worse than my severe depression, which the medication was supposed to be helping.

I was put on Pristiq in July and have been on many anti-depress.,I also take lorazapam, klonopin. My doctor wants me to taper off of the lorazapam, but it has been really hard. I have been on it for 2 years. I take Pristiq in the morning, one half tablet of klonopin during the day and a whole tablet at night. I have been trying to ge off loraz.so am trying to take it every other day. Have been having trouble sleeping, dreams, hallucinations!!! All these meds. I don't know what is really working and what is making me feel worse!!! Pristiq has been okay but I can not really say for sure that I really benefit from it. Good Luck!  Clohr

I was just wondering how the Pristiq worked for you? I've been on Effexpor XR for around 5 years, but it just doesn't seem to work anymore for me so my dr. put me on Pristiq. I'm a little nervous about trying it, because I've been on Effexor for so long. I've tried getting off of it but the withdrawal effects are horrible. I'm hoping maybe the Pristiq will help with that.

My dr put me on Pristiq one week ago.  I take mine at bedtime as I learned while on Lexapro you don't notice the side effects while sleeping.  I think I really like this medicine.  I don't have much of an appetite and I feel better.  The only side effect I notice is dry mouth.  But like everyone says the medicine I like and that works for me might not work for you.

I'm on my third day of prestiq.  Nothing so far besides constipation and stomach upset.  i still feel hopeless as ever.  I'm the lowest I've ever been.  I was on Paxil for two years before I quit taking it five months ago.  I didn't feel like I needed it anymore.  I wanted to be clean of all drugs.  But the last month I started feeling strange.  Crying jags.  Or just all over the place.  I started asking friends and family if they noticed anything different in me.   Big huge mistake.  Their answers left me feeling more alone than ever.  I feel like something in me has jumped the track.  I'm frightened.

Hello people, I just took my first pill of Prestiq yesterday morning at 6am.  From what I have read this is time released,  I was at work yesterday, about 230 or 3ish, I got light headed, slightly woozy, tingled all over until about 530 when I left work.  I got home, wasnt hungry, started watching football, and fell asleep about 930 or 10, I wake at 1030 to sweating (I was having thoughts of my own funeral, good side about that was that there were a lot of people) and feeling that the walls were closing on me, I was scared, I wanted to shout to my girlfriend which was doing homework in the next room that I was about to freak out, I didnt call out, I just layed there with my head tucked under the pillow.  I was wide awake until about 2 this morning,  Eyes wide open staring at the shadows in the corners.  This morning, I took my second pill.  I still feel all tingly all over, and my jaw hurts, feels like I have been with lock jaw all night.  I have zombie eyes today.  black bags and black pupils.  I am going to give it a week before I go back to my doctor.  If this is how this is going to affect me...I have to get something else.  However, I have never taken anti-depressants before, I dont know how long it takes for the beginning feelings to subside and the normal effects to start working, My doc told me not to expect anything for 4 weeks or so.  Get back to me people...Let me know what you feel.

Hello, I just wanted to ease your mind. While she is right it does take the right medication for everyone. I have just recently started pristiq and it seems to really be working well for me. 2yrs ago after my son was born I was diagnosed with post partum depression. Although for me it was in the form of extreme anxiety and fear that something would happen to him, he was a preemie and I worried myself into a total panic every day. When I finally decided I could not take anymore I did seek help. I had NEVER had any anxiety/depression problems before this. I was put on Lexapro which took about 3-4 weeks to work but once it did Ifelt like I had got my life back. 1 1/2 years later the lexapro just basically quit working for me and slowly all of my anxiety was coming back and this time with bouts of crying and sadness. Dr switched me to Wellbutrin xl 150mg which I felt great the first few hours after taking but by the evenings I was having horrible mood swings, any little thing set me off or made me want to scream. I was impatient with my son and every thing my poor husband did got on my nerves. I went throught this for 4-5 weeks because I know meds can take time. When I got to the point I couldnt stand myself I knew it had to be stopped which really bothered me. I know atleast 5 people whom have had WONDERFUL results with Wellbutrin, including my good friend who is a pharmacist. That just goes to show how meds react different to different body chemistries. That is where the Pristiq came in, from the first pill I took (which is rare) I felt better, no more mood swings and actually I feel at peace again. My husband is so happy. Now, the first week or so I did have mild nausea but it does go away. I would much rather have a few minor side affects than be on the edge and down right hateful. Now weeks later , NO more side affects and I feel better for the first time since 6-8 weeks into my lexapro treatment. Actually I may even be better. I know taking a new drug is scarry but it is worth a try especially if it can help anyone else the way it helped me.

Hi,
yes I have tried Pristiq- I was on it for about a month to  weeks and sadly it didn't help me.  I don't remember having any bad side effects from it though - it's just that it wasn't really helping my panic/anxiety attacks and I needed to change. Having said that, please keep in mind that EVERYONE reacts DIFFERENTLY to these meds. What didn't work for me, may work very well for you!
This has been a difficult year for me- trying many different things after month-6 weeks and not finding relief. I finally went back to Prozac which I took about 16 years ago when I first developed severe panic disorder.  It's making me a little better again, but I still have to take anti-anxiety (benzos) with it to keep me calm.
Best of luck to you!  It may just be the perfect drug for you!

My doctor gave me samples, and I refused to take it based on the paper it came with. All of the side effects that can go along with it. It's up to you to take it....but I would recommend getting a second opinion.
*Best wishes*
