paxil and buspar

I was taking lexapro and felt it was doing fairly well. Recently I had surgery and this doctor changed the lexapro to a paxil and buspar. At first I felt fine but now three weeks of the new meds and I am tired all of the time and very down.  I have a medical condition that I have to take several meds for ex: fentora, oxyliquid, fentanel patch. perscribed through a pain management doctor.   There is not much follow up with the new medicine and I wonder if all of this is good.  I'm wondering should I stop the paxil and buspar and go back to lexapro?

Agree with Julie and Paxiled.  Check with the doctor who made the switch.  As Julie mentioned ...it may be a belief that Paxil and Buspar are more appropriate with pain meds.

My experience is that Lexapro is an excellent drug.  I'd be taking it if it didn't cause diarrhea: have a brittle colon caused by radiation.....so my situation is different.

Paxil was tried for me, so know how it made me feel.   Flat lined best way to describe.

You are in charge.  As Paxiled and Julie said we tend to forget that doc is working for us.  One last thing about Lexapro ....I noticed it had great pain relieving capability.  So..again, think I'd get back on it.  Might be you'd need less pain meds.  This is all speculation .....I'm no doctor.  Just a survivor of the anxiety/depression wars.

Paxil was very sedating for me for quite some time after I started on it.  Lexapro was much less when I was on that.  But I'm with Julie, I'd find out why you were switched from a med with the lowest level of reported bad side effects to one with the most if the Lexapro was working fine for you.  Very odd.  So she's right, I'd find out why.  I would personally never change from a medication that was working, it's not easy to find one that does work.  Remember, the doctor works for you, not the other way around, so if there's not a medical reason for this and the guy just did it because he likes Paxil, insist on getting what you think is best.  It's your life, not his.

Sadly no one on here can answer that question for you and if they do say yes do not listen as we are not trained medical doctors nor do we know all about your medical history.  You will have to go back and speak to your PC or GP and see what he/she says.  There must of been a logical/medical reaso for the change.... Maybe Lexapro interacts with another medicine that was prescribed, hence the change.

When u speak to the doc make sure you ask the reason as to why Lexapro was changed to Paxil and state quite firmly that you are unhappy with this.  It may be that with some tweaking of your other pain killer meds you may be able to change back.  So i would suggest gewtting onto your doc as soon as you can.

Good-luck

Julie
