Sorry if I went too far, and I hope I cleared it up in my second post that I agree with you that scientifically, as we currently define it, homeopathy makes no sense.  But just to add one other thing on it, it's not the macronutrients in homeopathy that is what is said to make it work, it's the energetics.  Now, we can't see this energy.  Maybe it doesn't exist.  It's the same theory as used in acupuncture, in Chinese Medicine, in Taoism, in ayurveda, in yoga, in kung fu and tai chi, this notion of an energy flow that modern science with all its tools can't see.  Homeopathy supposedly works by capturing the energy of the remedy, not the nutrients in it.  But if you don't find it an appealing alternative, I'm fine with that, I just don't like to decide for others what works and what doesn't, especially when I've seen it work for people who are as skeptical as they come.  And I've seen it not work.  As I say, just as with medication.  As the chief said in Little Big Man, sometimes the magic works, sometimes it doesn't, or something like that.  Peace.

I have faith in the biology of beliefs and i think the placebo effect should be used and learned or whatever instead of making money with water ( homeopathy ). But you're right about if it works and it's placebo who cares, i don't care but what makes me angry is that people are paying money for water instead of buying something else like natural remedies or healthier food or a subscription to the gym.

They were talking about removing the placebos from the clinical trials some time ago and i found it was the worst idea ever. We gotta learn all the benefits we can get from believing in something. Our thoughts and beliefs and especially those coming from the subconscious mind have a great impact on our biology. Miracles are not made by god, they are from ourself, we have the power to alter our biology by ourself but we use tools. The body is a wonderful machine that can heal itself pretty good but our perception and beliefs can also play against it as it can play for it. People have in their subconscious ''if i'm sick i go to the doctor to heal'' ( this is only an example and if you are sick i do think you should go to the doctor lol )  only going to the doctor will engage the healing process. On the other hand we can see people drink poison and nothing happen to their biology, they don't die or doesn't have any symptom at all. They just strongly believe that the some kind of god that is protecting them against the poison. It's like that guy who can endure being pressed against a bed of nails with no pain because of a placebo effect/the control of is mind. He feels no pain at all! Best tylenol ever? I guess so! We still have a lot to learn from the mind-body connection and biology and neuroscience.

Anyway sorry for talking about homeopathy but it's just in my scientific mind to report it and talk about the placebo and it's not because it's not a good thing. The only thing that made me jump is that Paxiled stated my post was incorrect rather than giving his opinion on homeopathy. That's it.

To: PaxiledThere is so much debate surrounding all the different forms of medicine available, but I do agree with you about keeping an open mind about everything. People who make blanket statements against one form or another are simply exhibiting their ignorance or supposed superiority. As you said, just because it doesn't work for one person, doesn't mean it won't work for someone else, and if those results come from the placebo effect, who cares. If it works, it works. The same can be said about many "modern pharmaceuticals!"  Homeopathy has been around for a VERY long time and while it may not have been scrutinized by "modern scientific research," doesn't make it a worthless alternative. And simply Googling the term will net you both the negative and the positive side. Those who choose to view, and print, only the negative do a disservice to many who believe. And there ARE many who do.
If some people looked in MY medicine box, they'd be out starting the fire even as we speak!
Thanks for your well thought out response, Paxiled.
Peace

I understand your argument, and I can't argue against it.  I can't personally explain homeopathy except as its founder and its practitioners do, which is that it triggers a reaction similar to but different from a vaccination.  I know it makes no sense in how we think of science.  Yet it continues to work well for many people.  I use homeopathic remedies, and sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.  As a skeptic about most things, I just don't get placebo effects.  I also managed health food stores for many years, and originally thought the whole thing was bunk, but too many bright people used it successfully.  My dentist is a homeopath.  I know people who raised their children using homeopathy.  Personally, I use herbs and nutrients more than homeopathy, but I can't deny it does work for some people, just as supposedly scientifically proven pharmaceuticals only work sometimes for some people.  If it is placebo effect, who cares?  If it works, it works.  But given the downright cynics I know who use it successfully, I have come to believe there's something there we don't understand, just as we don't understand acupuncture -- you certainly can't see chi -- but it works.  But again, I can't argue with you that by current logic as mainstream medicine, our secular religion, goes, it's certainly difficult to prove.  In the French studies, people were given homepathic remedies and placebo, and the homepathic remedies produced measurable antibodies.  The US, unfortunately, does virtually no research whatsoever on natural remedies to avoid competition with allopathic medicine, but the rest of the world is more open.  Perhaps that's why they get better medical results with less expense.  You know, they used to burn herbalists as witches.  So I keep an open mind.

Homeopathy is unsupported by modern scientific research. The extreme dilutions used in homeopathic preparations usually leave none of the original material in the final product. The modern mechanism proposed by homeopaths, water memory, is considered implausible in that short-range order in water only persists for about 1 picosecond.

Look i study biochemistry and now some physics and there's no such thing as water memory and it violates the rules of chemistry.

The studies done by France and India are good example of what the placebo effect can do to the body. Thinking something with alter our biology might just will... 1/3 of the people who are receiving suger pills ( placebo ) respond to the drug and it is also true for immune system. There's something new happening in biology and it's all about knowing the strong impact our will and thoughts can have on our biology. Newtonian principle is getting old and we must think more about the wholeness principle.

Anyway if you want to drink water, go ahead if you think it will help you it might just be because yes the placebo effect can be strong and yes it can alter our biology but fact is that it's just water remaining in an homeopathic remedy.

Physicist Robert L. Park, former executive director of the American Physical Society, has noted that

''since the least amount of a substance in a solution is one molecule, a 30C solution would have to have at least one molecule of the original substance dissolved in a minimum of 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 molecules of water. This would require a container more than 30,000,000,000 times the size of the Earth.''

Park has also noted that "to expect to get even one molecule of the 'medicinal' substance allegedly present in 30X pills, it would be necessary to take some two billion of them, which would total about a thousand tons of lactose plus whatever impurities the lactose contained"

The laws of chemistry state that there is a limit to the dilution that can be made without losing the original substance altogether. This limit, which is related to Avogadro's number, is roughly equal to homeopathic potencies of 12C or 24X (1 part in 1024).

Scientific tests run by both the BBC's Horizon and ABC's 20/20 programs were unable to differentiate homeopathic dilutions from water, even when using tests suggested by homeopaths themselves.

So please don't say my above post was incorrect because some France's people and Indian just saw something happen to the immune system, it's all about thoughts that can alter biology. You would have given the test members a sugar pill and it would probably have done the same thing.

The above post is incorrect.  France and India have done much research on homeopathy and have documented definite immune system reactions to homeopathic treatment, and the many patients of homeopathy will also differ with the above.  In the US, homeopathy was the main form of medicine until the AMA got it banned toward the end of the 19th century, when the robber barons decided to throw their investment in with allopathic medicine.  But homeopathy is hit and miss, trial and error, so whether that's your remedy or not would be better dealt with by seeing a homeopathic physician.  In the meantime, there are some symptomatic remedies that might help, such as Calm's Forte for sleep.  Ignatia amara, argentum nitriticum, coffea cruda, and gelsemnium might also be helpful.  But again, homeopathy is very much trial and error -- as is medication, for that matter -- so no guarantees it will work.

Hello there,

Homeopathy is not more efficient than a placebo and not proven scientifically. What you get with homeopathy is water. I would rely on something better. Healthy diet and physical activity is from my point of you better than homeopathy. You can also try natural anti-anxiety remedies or supplements. If you need any suggestion just ask me.

Please consider that I'm not a doctor not a nutritionist therefore consult your doctor if you have any concern about your health.

Best regards,
M4
