vagal response

Here's a new one. I'm going to school to be a medical assistant and part  of our class is to do blood draws and finger sticks. I see the blood and have a vagal response (dizziness, sweating, passing out) and that makes me have a panic attack. What am I supposed to do about that one? I don't want to take my Ativan because vagals are caused by a lowered blood pressure. My Ativan would only make that worse, I would think. Any advice?

Thanks guys!  I took my ativan and by the grace of god I got through the first round. Maybe this won't be something else I'll have to quit. Thanks for the support. Love...

Take the Ativan.  It won't lower your blood pressure that much.  As a medical assistant, you're probably going to have to draw blood on numerous occasions so you have to learn to deal with it.  Good luck.
