has ANYONE tried a natural remedy to relieve their anxiety?

I am in search of a natural remedy to relieve my anxiety.  I don't feel that I am at the point where I need to take an SSRI or benzo on a daily basis.  Maybe one day I will need it.  As for now, I feel I can get by with other techniques.  I have been searching the Net for a natural herbal remedy.  Yesterday, I researched Seredyn.  This morning I found like ten others!  There are many and I am getting very confused.  So I am putting this post out to see if anyone has tried any natural remedy to relieve their anxiety.  It's worth a try.  Thanks.

valerian root ginko gotu kola kelp lobelia slippery elm can be mixed into an herbal cocktail for anxiety. supplement with vitamins a, b complex, c and e. mineral supplements calcium magnesium potassium lecithin blue-green algae and CoQ10. avoid low blood sugar with frequent smaller meals or healthy snacks between meals. my daughter has double anxiety and when she took the herbal cocktail she felt most normal but had to avoid when driving or studying. can cause sleepiness especially pronounced if u take 2 much so start with low dose and monitor performance

I like your sense of humor.  I tend to have a very sarcastic one, gets me in trouble sometimes.

Hahaha, I'd hope!

Nah, the entire first paragraph of my post was more toward what people would try. I really wouldn't be surprised if there was some jewel within the rough in the belladonna family, but there's over 500 things there. Ranging from a type of a sweet potato on. Also, if you look it up, henbane was supposedly used as an anesthetic probably along the lines of such like ketamine prior to learning of its "spiritual" properties as well. :P

Northcoast:

Thanks for the info.  I know there are some precautions that should be taken with Kava Kava.  Natural doesn't necessarily mean safe.  However, it would be worth a try rather than going straight to an SSRI.

Underorbit:

Gee thanks but I don't know...  Probably better to stay away from Mandrake. Thanks for the effort anyway (LOL)

Everyone:
One more thing, when I posted this question I was thinking specifically about natural remedies marketed for anxiety like Seredyn and Anxietol.  Anyone know anything about these two?

I took the Kava Kava per my opthamologist's recommendation.  It was to help with an eye spasm problem.  The only thing is I started taking the Kava at the same time as Xanax and Lexapro.  The first night I took the "cocktail" I didn't have my eye problem anymore, until I discontinued all but the xanax due to side effects from either the Kava or the Lexapro (involuntary movements).  But my opthamologist recommended the Kava supplements up to 3 times per day.  She said to work up to that dose slowly.   Give it a try.  I may still go back to the Kava but have a neuro appt. in July and want to talk to him about my eye issues.  And whether the involuntary movements are related to some underlying health issue or indeed a side effect of the Lexapro or Kava.

I'd say Kava Kava, but there are plenty others. Wild/opium lettuce, being one of them that supposedly brings on a mellow sedation, and slight euphoria. I've known people whom have had life-turning events off of things like datura, nightshade, henbane, mandrake, and lotuses. However, I do not recommend the latter five, considering there's a fine line between medical remedy and poisoning. I know datura for a fact causes hallucinations. As for nightshade (and a lot of plants within the belladonna family,) have been used for a lot of medical purposes, but not sure about anxiety, some cause incredible sedate and hallucinations (like henbane.) Mandrake I know for a fact is way too poisonous, and whomever survived that ingestion got lucky, so I'd assume that's for it's account of mystical properties. But above all, and as far as I know, the line is far too fine to walk on any normal means, or recreational.

Erm...chamomile tea works quite well for me, and can seemingly synergize with benzos. It's slightly short-lived, the effects of the tea, but it usually brings me to a mellow at times. No sedation for me, but people have experienced it. Passion flower isn't too bad for relaxation also, along the lines of chamomile. It also grows everywhere (once you see a picture of the flower, you can't miss it.)

Just tid-biting. I know most of the first paragraph won't help.

If you are not ready to take pills yet, there are some things you can do without taking anything. How is your diet? Refined sugars and "white" stuff can add to anxiety, along with caffeine. Also, they say vigorous exercise can help- try and get at least 30minutes per day- I believe this helps boost your serotonin levels. I am having trouble cutting out the white stuff- and chocolate! I have a serious addiction! When I found out a few years ago that I had high cholestrol- at the age of 24- it freaked me out- I went on a very strict diet (basically the diabetic diet), exercised at least 45 minutes a day. Now that 6months that I was doing this- I really felt wonderful!!!! I didnt have any anxiety or sinus problems whatsoever. I know I need to get back there, but I am having a lot of issues this time around.

I believe anxiety and depression are pretty similiar in a lot of ways. I found this article that discusses diet for depression. I hope it helps! http://www.newstarget.com/020611.html
Best of luck to you!! I am starting the B-complex next week to see if that helps! I will let you know! I dont want to take drugs yet either!!

YES!  Just the person I want to talk to.  This psychiatrist dude I spoke to recommended Kava Kava.  How much of it did you take?  Do you remember?  You said that it seemed to help, can you elaborate?  Did it make a noticeable difference in your anxiety level?

Thanks!

I took Kava Kava for a while.  It is supposed to be a natural sedative.  Tastes pretty yucky though.  It did seem to help though but I read somewhere that you shouldn't take it with Xanax so I stopped.  I took St. John's Wort years ago and can't recall if it helped or not.  I do think that cutting out caffeine and sugar will help alleviate some anxiety.  And exercise is great too.
