worried

Hi I have been taking citalopram for four days had some side effects but for the most part I have coped with several trips to the hospital with one dr saying stop taking it and another saying work through the side effects and take librium when needed to help when the anxiety wont go. The main thing I am worried about it that I have had a heart problem with svt which I had ablated in october. I read that citalopram can cause QT prolongation which can result in death, I was so worried I made me dr do an ecg which was ok but I am still worried. Most of my anixety centres around my health especially my heart and breathing. I was going to post a question to one of the drs but you have to pay now the last time I did it it was free.

Glad to hear the anxiety is on the downswing. I was on Citalopram for sometime and dealt with much the same side effects as you for the first couple weeks, but after that not a problem.

You're right about the QT prolongation, its generally associated with overdose of the drug. I overdosed New years day on citalopram along with trazadone, and sure enough, my QTs became overly prolonged.

Good luck

Dont be worried about taking it, i was overly obsessing about the risk of the affect on the heart. I saw a cardiologist today and he reassured me that the qt thing only happens in overdose or in people who already have something wrong with the rhythm of thier hearts. I am sorry that I have worried you. I have severe health anxiety so anything in the side effect list I will think I have. I have been taking the tablets for 5 days now and other than a headache and some mild sickness I have been fine. My anxiety has lessened some what. Although it does take two weeks for the meds to work I can feel a change already. I was so anxious that I was going to the hospital nearly every day which was ridiculous.

I'm don't really undertand what exactly your saying here but I was thinking of takin citalopram (recently prescribed) and now I'm more hessitant.  "citalopram can cause QT prolongation which can result in death" yikes

anyway, I really wish I could help you here but I'm kinda uncertain what you need advise with exactly.
