My dr said that maybe should try 20 mg of Paxil at night and in the morning and just stay on the paxil for now cause im getting ready to move in about a month to a new state my husband is already there working...thats why my anxiety got bad...so he wants to up the paxil and take me off the zoloft cause of the side effects. I cant even work im sleeping til 2 in the afternoon and stomach is so upset! Thank you for your input I really appreciate it!
No need to be scared dear!
Paxiled is right, about the most optimal way to change medications....some doctors don't do it that way, but it really is better to taper completely off one medication before starting another. Trying to come off one medication at the same time you're adjusting to a new medication can make it difficult to determine what symptom is what...w/d from the old medication, or start-up side effects from the new one, you know?
I would recommend talking to your doctor about JUST slowly tapering off the Paxil first, THEN starting the Zoloft. That would be a better approach. Is your doctor a psychiatrist? If not, I would ask your pcp to refer you to one. P-docs are really the best docs to be managing these medications.
Hang in there....keep us updated!
Ok now im scared! What do I do?..ive been on Zoloft before about 15 years ago and I liked it I was only on 30 mg of Paxil before I started the taper!
This is my opinion, but this isn't a good idea. Paxil is very hard to quit taking and needs to be tapered off of slowly, but it's best to do this before starting a new medication. Zoloft cannot substitute for Paxil, as they're very different in the receptors they target and Paxil is one unique drug. What you're experiencing is most likely Paxil withdrawal, but when you take two drugs at once you can't tell which process the side effects are coming from, the new drug or withdrawal from the old one. I'd rethink this method if it were me and quit the Paxil all the way as long as it takes before starting the Zoloft.
