Is this gout?

Hi. I am a 49yrs woman. I have a VP shunt for IIH  and up to Feb , I was taking Diomax. I have had repeated kidney infections since Nov 09 to the present day and am attending a Urologist for testing.
Im the last four weeks, I developed a sharp, cramp like pain , below my big toe and in it. Also, on the other leg, very bad pain in my knee.
I have no swelling or inflamation on my toe only pain. My dr diagnosed Gout and prescribed, Colchicine Tabs, 500xtwo daily. I had relief with in 24 hrs but still am unsure of the correct diagnoses.
I also started Crestar, 5mgs  at the same time.

Can any one help with this? Thank you, Cath278.

I would say it does sound like Gout and with the colchicine helping that is a big indicator.  Did it help your knee pain?  If not do ensure you get that checked out.  For Gout do look at changing your diet to help avoid further attacks.  If you click on Gout at the top of the screen it can give you some more info or give it a google search.

Hi TrudieC and thank you for answering my post. It does seem to be Gout, as the medication is working. I am to have bloods done in the next two weeks , I imagne to see if it has cleared up.

I have improved my diet in the last few months. But with all the continous kidney infections, it has made it difficult. My biggest concern, was, that the infections have something to do with having Gout.
Thanks , also, for for the tip  of going to the top of the pg for info.
Best wishes, Cath278.
