LEG PAIN

QUITE A FEW MONTHS AGO I STARTED GETTING ACHES IN BOTH LEGS, I PUT IT DOWN TO THE MENOPAUSE, ANYWAY 6 WEEKS AGO THE PAINS SEEMED TO BE GETTING WORSE I HOPED IT WOULD GO AWAY, 3 WEEKS AGO I NOTICED MY LEFT KNEE WAS PAINFUL AND SWOLLEN, MY DOCTOR SENT ME FOR AN XRAY I HAD GOT MODERATE OSTEOARTHRITIS OF MY KNEE, UNFORTUNATELY AT THE MOMENT I HAVE TO HOLD ONTO SOMETHING TO GET UP OUT OF A CHAIR AND A STRUGGLE TO CLIMB STAIRS, WHILST SITTING I GET PAIN IN OTHER LEG I AM ONLY 55 BUT I FEEL ABOUT 70, I INFORMED MY DOCTOR THAT MY OTHER LEG WAS HURTING PLUS I WAS LIMPING WITH PAIN IN GROIN, FRONT, AND BACK OF LEGS
AND IN KNEE AND DOWN TOWARDS ANKLE, MY GP SAID THAT LEG HA BEEN COMPENSATING FOR THE OTHER LEG AND I WAS STRAING THE MUSCLES IN THAT LEG, THE ONLY PAIN KILLERS THAT HELP ARE DIHYACODEINE, I AM SURE THERE IS MORE TO IT THAN MUSCLE STRAIN, CAN YOU ADVISE PLEASE

Hi spazie,

Many thanks for your suggestions, no to the cortisone shot but will ask doctor about this.  I will let you know what he thinks.

Hello there, did your Dr happen to give you a cortisone shot for that knee?  It can rapidly reduce the inflammation so I would ask if he hadn't to get one.  Did he do any blood work to rule out rheumatoid arthritis?

Are you taking any vitamin supplements like vitamin D or calcium?  Vitamin D makes your muscles feel better, I take 1000 units a day of it and it helps immensely with the muscle pains.

A good thing to do for your knee is doing some simple exercises.  When your sitting down, pull your legs up and flex your thigh muscles, this will help strengthen the muscles around your knee.  And also doing some water exercices, with the warm weather, it is a safer alternative than low impact aerobics and you won't even notice your exercising!

We here understand the pain of arthritis, I hoped this info helped some.

Your Friend,

Spazie
