Tramadol is not classified as a narcotic, however, it is as close to narcotic as any other narcotic, so if you are looking for a non-habit forming drug or something with less side effect from a narcotic, Ultram/tramadol may not be the route to take.
NSAID have been shown to be effective with osteoarthritis.
Ansaid (Flurbiprofen) Arthrotec (Diclofenac/Misoprostol) Cataflam (Diclofenac potassium) Clinoril (Sulindac) Daypro (Oxaprozin) Dolobid (Diflunisal) Feldene (Piroxicam) Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) Indocin (Indomethacin) Ketoprofen (Orudis, Oruvail) Lodine (Etodolac) Meclomen (Meclofenamate) Mobic (Meloxicam) Nalfon (Fenoprofen) Naproxen (Naprosyn, Aleve) Ponstel (Mefanamic Acid) Relafen (Nabumetone) Tolectin (Tolmetin) Voltaren (Dicolfenac Sodium)
I would definitely call the Dr to explore your options. The one non-narcotic pain reliever that comes to my mind is Ultram (tramadol). I have talked to many who have used it with success.
