arm pain

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. Three weeks ago I put 3 cartons of copy paper away at work. Two days later, I started having this ache in my left arm right below the shoulder in the bicep area. The ache is hard to describe.  It is like a quick sharp throbbing burning sensation that only lasts a couple of seconds but it does this several times a day. It happens at rest so moving my arm does not provoke it. I've been to my pcp and even Rheumatology and they can't tell me what the cause of this is. I've had the cardiac workup so I am good there. Any suggestions?

You might have sticky vain syndrome or trapped nerves your doctor can run tests to find out what is causing it

You are welcome.

I wish you luck at your appointment! I hope your Doc will do a few tests to get to the bottom of your pain. Be assertive! These Docs are not Gods - even though some thing they are! :o)

I'll watch for your update.

Hello Rlw,

I'm not certain this is the right location for your post either - but we welcome you.

You describe your pain as quick, sharp, throbbing and burning. It sounds like nerve pain to me. When you reached up you may have done something to your Cervical Spine - or you may have had something brewing in that area which aggravated an undiagnosed existing condition. Obviously I may be completely wrong in my supposition.

Some months ago I discovered I have a cervical spine issue. Some of my horrfic pain was in my deltoid and below. My pain also occurred at rest. Indeed it didn't matter what I did. An MRI ordered by an astute physician uncovered the problem. I suggest you ask for an evaluation of your spine. It could also be in your upper Thoracic Spine rather than lower Cervical Vertebral structure. It may be worth consideration.

Your pain could be muscle and soft tissue - which in time will resolve. However because motion doesn't seem to aggravate it - muscle and soft tissue would seem to be less likely.

What I do know is pain is our body's way of telling us something just isn't right. I believe it's important that we listen when our body is talking. I encourage you not to take, "I don't know" for an answer. Just because a clinical evaluation doesn't reveal anything doesn't mean there isn't something to brewing. Be assertive and ask for answers. Remember we hire medical providers, they work for us. If you need to seek a second - or even a third opinion I encourage you to do so.

I hope you'll keep in touch - and share with us what you discover. I'll look forward to hearing more from you - soon.

Best of Luck,
~Tuck

Hi Tuck, Thanks for your reply. I have an appointment with my doctor on Wednesday. I will let you know what I find out then. Hopefully he will give me a better answer  than he just doesn't know like the first time I saw him.
