I agree with your doctor. I have arthritis wherever there is a place to have it and then some. My knees are shot. I received a medial unicompartmental  of R. knee in 03. Fell at work and damaged--shifted prosthesis slightly. Did 5 inj. of Hylagan and many injections of steroids. I remembered that prior to knee surgery the MRI showed osteonecrosis. MD had stated was probably R/T steroids. Shoulders and elbows and wrists, shoot as I said all joints HURT. Necthe pits. Even had nerve blocks of neck. Helped until I feel . Am now on Lortab 15 every 3-4 hours. Back to steriods. Yes, they will increase blood sugar along with blood pressure. They, as you probably make moody, which didn't help my bipolar either. For me, the benefits of the steroids did not outweigh the side effects. Both MD and I decided no more steroids at least for now. My advice would be choose a MD you trust and respect and the 2 of you work together. Myself, I don't follow advice at times. If I do not seem to get results suppose to get as soon as I think I should, I get a second opion. For the most I see the same Ortho. doc that I have seen the past 12 years. That said, I guess I trust him. Do think I need a MD specifically that treats arthritis. It has really been hard for me to accept the fact I am unable to do the job I used to do. One PT that did my capacity/performance rating ( I think that's what you call it) said not to think or say what I used to do, but think about what I can/will do. I'm trying. All I have ever done is nursing for 34 years. I do not know anything else. Decided to go back to school and finish Masters Nursing in Educaation and teach. Wish me luck. Been debating this for approx 3 years. I feel this is where I am being led. Sorry and I apoligize if I've went on and on. My bipolar is better. I stopped my meds for 4 days. (many meds) I know I need my b**t kicked. Before I got too bd I had the sense to start back. I was thinking I really didn't need. Know different now. OOPS this is not the forum to discuss this. Botom line, when the pain is so bad, it will make me do strange things. Thanks for allowing me to share.

I had a "shot" for my gout last year and it was a living hell for me.High blood sugars, intense dry mouth and overall weak ill feeling.I am also bipolar 2 as well and experienced some severe mental distress as well.I am not a doctor, but after what happened to me "steroids" are on the no go list from now on unless its a life saving emergency. My A1C's usually 5.5 so I have really good control with no meds at all only diet and exercise.I suggest you talk with your doctor and have a back up plan for any reaction esp. hyperglycemia.
