Hi, i saw a rheumatologist this week because iv been having bad joint pain everywhere, and while examining me he said that my elbows hyperextend abit. i was just wondering what this means? obviously they extend more than they should, but i mean in terms of symptoms, conditions etc like what significance it has. thanks

In general, RA patients with elbow involvement tend to have *flexion* deformities, which means they can't extend their elbow joints all the way.

Just to throw something out there - has the rheumatologist discussed the possibility of Marfan's syndrome? Joint hyperextension and overall joint pain is one of the symptoms. This is a genetically passed-on disease that tends to run in certain populations, like the Cajun community along the U.S. Gulf coast.

ok so not related to my pain? the pain is in more joints than just my elbows anyway

Not much significance, I think. It's just an observation.  Think it is also genetic if your elbows hyperextend or not.
