Yes, we are being advised to get both, but only the regular flu shot is available right now, and H1N1 is pretty rampant in the LA area now. Its just hard to say who has what kind of flu people are getting, since they are not testing for the type.
But everyone at my work is sick.....seems about like last year to me so far, but earlier.
I forgot to go get my shot last night, darn it! Now I have to either pay to get it, or wait a few more days until I work again. I seriously do not want the flu.
Lysol does work to kill it off. I keep them in my desk drawer at work and wipe off my desk, etc. twice a day. At our local grocery store they are providing them as well, and you can wipe down the handles of the grocery cart. I too am counting the days until the H1N1 vaccine is availble here. Peek...it takes a week or two to be effective after you get it correct? Also, in our province they won't give you seasonal now unless you really want it. I have been advised (by medical staff, not some internet sight..lol) to get H1N1 only...it's so confusing. I am curious as to what they are doing where you work? Are they advising both? I want to make sure I am as protected from getting sick as possible.
I try to just limit contact with other people in general! :)
Anything that works on regular influenza viruses will work on H1N1.
The best deterrent is good handwashing--with good, old fashioned soap and water. If that is not available, use an alcohol based hand sanitizer. Limit prolonged exposure to crowds if you can help it.
Try to avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Obviously, try to avoid contact with people who are ill.
And get vaccinated. I'm getting the regular flu shot and the H1N1, as soon as its available here.
There is no terrible mystery about the H1N1 vaccine. It is developed and brought to market like the flu vaccine is every year. Every year, the regular flu "shot" changes in response to the virus that is expected to be circulating the next year.
Yes, I saw that too. That's what I was using when we had it hit our house and no one else got it but my son, thankfully.
I can't imagine why disinfectants or bleach couldn't kill this virus?
I think Lysol now claims to kill H1N1. I think I saw that on one of their commercials.
