Steroids

Hey Peek, thanks for answering my questions on my journal about this. I have another question. How much is too much of the steroids? I heard that taking it too much can weaken your bones. And I sure don't need that since my mother has osteoporosis and my grandmother had it too.
I'm just finishing up the 6 day package they gave me to help with my sinus infection. The thing is, I didn't think about it but I've already had 2 steroid shots in my heel this year and the podiatrist said I can only have 1 more for the year. He won't do more than 3. I also had taken the oral steroids once before several months ago again, for my heel, when it was acting up real bad.
Is that too much for one year?

LOL - I'll try to remember that! Hm, my voice hasn't gotten lower, wait, yes it did! Oh yeah, that's because I lost my voice, lol. Ok, no weird facial hair or extra appendages. Didn't bulk up overnight. Hm, nope! I guess I'm ok! LOL

Thanks for all the replies, guys! I appreciate it. :)

I've been on long term high dose steroids in my past due to ulcerative colitis and expect to have again with my Lupus.  I've not had my bone density tested and frankly have just not wanted to know.  It has been 16 years since I took them.  Keeping your doctors aware of your previous short term uses is good but working to replace any density you may have lost is key to ensure you are in shape for any future requirements.  Up your calcium and vitamin D intake and do weight bearing exercises.  It is when you don't play catch up that you can have issues.

I don't know if there is an absolute limit, per se.  Just be sure that if you get sick again, you mention it to the doctor.

Good question, though!
