Thanks for using the forum.

There are two types of herpes testing. The IgG test is the recommended test. This test detects antibodies given off by the HSV. It can determine type 1 or type 2. It cannot tell how long the virus has been present in the body or where it is located if there are no symptoms.

The IgM test is best for testing after known recent contact. It detects the antibodies produced about 1 week after contracting the virus. It will not determine the type of HSV present.

I would recommend speaking with your doctor about your test results to make sure you are taking appropriate precautions and treatment.

Hope this helps
