Steroids for OCB band

Hi,
My mother has been diagnosed with ALS. After her spinal tap test, the oligoclonal band was detected.
The doctor has recommended steroids to treat it.
What doesn this mean in terms of her prognosis?
Thanks

HI and thanks for using the forum.

I honestly am not qualified to answer these questions.  You should discuss this with your mom's doctor.  I have seen ICB bands being associated with MS, but I could not find any info relating it to ALS.  I suggest that you write down a list of questions that you have for the doctor prior to going with your mom for her appointment.   This way, you can be sure to get all of your questions answered.  It can be so hard to remember questions off the top of your head when you go into an appointment, so having a list can be very helpful.  Good luck to you and your mom.

Bridget

PS- If your mom has not had a second opinion from a neurologist, it may be a good idea to do so.

They tell me she might have ALS syndrome. I don't know what to think at this point. Whatever it is it is severe and debilitating. Maybe the steroids will help with the inflammation and she will feel a little bit better at least.
