Go to your doctor I had severe sickness in my pregnancy and had to be hospitalized. Hope your ok
Thanks for using the forum.
Congratulations on your pregnancy. I am sorry that you are feeling so poorly. Many women experience nausea during their pregnancy, especially during the first trimester. The severity can vary with some women finding it manageable, and others who can barely keep anything down.
It is important to make sure you remain hydrated. If you should get to the point were you are having trouble keeping down fluids, I would recommend speaking with your doctor right away. If you are 5 weeks along, you probably have your first prenatal visit coming up in a couple of weeks. I would definitely mention it at that appointment if you don't call sooner.
There are a few things you can try to help with the nausea. First try frequent, small meals. I know the last thing you want right now is to think about food, but often allowing too much time between meals increases the feelings of nausea. Stick with bland, mild foods. Bananas are great if you can tolerate them. They are filling and full of electrolytes. Snack on crackers between meals. There are also bars on the market now, like those protein bars but formulated for pregnant women. You might try snacking on those. Don't eat big, rich meals right now, they will leave you feeling full and increase your nausea.
Some women find that their prenatal vitamin makes them feel sick. If you think yours is making you feel ill, speak with your doctor. Don't stop taking it. Your doctor may be able to recommend a different vitamin that is easier on your stomach. The vitamin is very important especially at this point in your pregnancy. The folic acid in the vitamin helps with the brain and nervous system development of your baby. Additionally, try taking the vitamin with food.
You can also try some old school treatments for nausea. Some women find relief from ginger or peppermint. There are pure ginger candies on the market (ie. gin-gins). Sucking on these can help with nausea. Or you could try peppermint or ginger tea. There are also lollypops on the market that are supposed to help with morning sickness.
Some of this may help, but everyone is different and what works for one mom might not for another. Make sure you are getting plenty of fluids (especially water). Keep a water bottle with you and sip it throughout the day. If you are still not keeping anything down, it is probably time to call your doctor.
I hope you are feeling better soon. Congratulations again.

Difficulty eating during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy is very normal. Your baby will be fine as long as you are able to hold down fluids, your prenatal vitamins, and a little food. If after week 12, you are still unable tp eat, that is cause for concern and should be addressed by your OBGYN
