Red spots--just an allergy?

My girlfriend is 22. Every month, usually in the days before she menstruates, a variety of symptoms present:

--Red blotches on her hands (size ranges, generally slightly smaller than a dime. Sometimes white in the middle, hot to the touch, cover about 50% of the skin on her hands. Don't appear anywhere else on her body, accompanied by swelling in her fingers that makes it painful to close her hand.)
--Severe headaches (around the entire head, not just forehead)
--Significant joint/bone pain

She has been to a few doctors but the responses have varied from allergy to possibly leukemia. She has never been tested for any disease. She is however allergic to several different things.

Other possibly relevant facts:

--she had an abortion about three years ago (strangely, the initial blood test was negative)

--A couple months ago the left side of her face went numb for several days, then went back to normal

--she generally gets little sleep because she is so busy and is on a diet

any insight would help put my mind at ease

It is unlikely that these are allergic in nature.  It appears from the time sequence that these are hormonally related and affect her skin and joints.  I would suggest speaking with a gynecologist as a good start to figure out what is happening.

I forgot to add:

These symptoms have more or less been present since she was about 9 years old but have been getting worse recently
