I had my first asthma attack at 7 I have had mild asthma over the years, as an adult I haven't had an asthma attack for about 40 years but if I don't take a preventer I get mildly puffed out, so I have been using a preventer under Dr. instructions all this time.
Now I get mildly breasthless doing things and very breathless walking up hills and stairs, I have to stop and rest several times even with the preventer.
My Dr. sent me for a test breathing into a machine, I was told I now have COPD. I don't understand how this can be possible when my asthma was always mild and under control with medication.
I am still on the same medication as always and I don't really understand why I now have lung disease.
I can't help wondering if all those adult years I didn't really have asthma and if that was the case could the preventer have caused the COPD. I don't like to ask my Dr. too many questions as he seems to have a laid back approach as if there isn't much wrong with me. I don't know if this will get worse or stay as it is at present. I walk a lot, but have put on some weight and am trying to eat healthy at present.
