Asthma and Panic Attack

In July I thought I was having allergy problems. Turned out to be pneumonia. I thought I was ok after meds. Then I had a really bad asthma attack. I did not know what was happening. Really bad coughing and hard to breathe. Went to ER and they gave me breathing meds. I saw an allergist yesterday and he put me on Adviair and Proair. I haven't had the Proair prescriptioin filled yet as I still have proventil. Sorry to ramble on. My problem is that when I feel I can't breathe I take the proventil and then I start to panic and it takes awhile for the proventil to work. Is it normal that it takes awhile to work?

Try to relax and know that the meds will work.  If I start to get stressed, it takes sooooo much longer to relax and recover.

Get a peak flow meter and use it before and after you use the inhaler, this helps to give you a visual that the medication is working and all the feelings are due to stress and anixety.  It took me roughly 4 months of that to lose the anixety I felt when I started to get asthma symptoms.

Thank you Tammy. I will go to the store and try to fird the peak flow meter. This is all new to me and it's very difficult. I felt better last night but, right now I am going through another anxiety because I am feeling I can't get enough air. I think I am going to rest for a few minutes and hope it helps.
Thanks again for the reply.
