Asthma uncontrolled

Hi, I'm new to this community...I have been asthmatic since I was 6 and when I was younger it was VERY bad, and like the drs thought, I seemed to outgrow it a bit as I got older.  HOWEVER when the seasons change, I tend to get hit pretty hard.  I am allergic to singular and I have been taking albuterol as my medication.  I used to take Beclovent and the albuterol about 10 years ago but then went to albuterol only and it has seemed to do the trick until now.  I'm looking for experiences with mucomyst if anyone has used it.  I am all wheezy but my cough just isn't as productive as I'd like it to be...any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well!

I tried the mycinex and it really helped a lot...and they put me back on a steroid inhaler so thankfully I am doing a bit better...not 100% yet but getting there =)  Thanks!

Oh...another thing. Another alternative to help thin mucous is to neb straight saline. I also take guiafenisen (mucinex tabs) to help with my mucous. I am also on pulmozyme (DNAse which breaks down the DNA of the mucous and thins it) but that is prescribed for Cystics. Sunny

I have used mucomyst, I have bronchiectasis (due to atypical CF) and have problems with mucous clearance. The problem I had with mucomyst is that it caused bronchospasm with me, even with a albuterol treatment (you should always do mucomyst with a bronchodilator, it is an irritant). I also have significant asthma and am on long acting meds for that as well. It did do its job...it thinned my mucous but the side effects were too harsh for me (the med also smells like rotten eggs!) You may do better however...everyone is different. But be careful with your asthma....Sunny
