Hey,
I have had asthma about a year and half now but it was diagnosed yesterday. If your inhalers are only lasting 6 treatments I would say that you might be overdosing on them for sure.
I agree with what eve said, you should see your doctor again and be shown how to use them. I have been given several inhalers over the past year and haven't had this problem where they run out quickly. But, I was using them in the incorrect way, and they were able to explain the proper way to me. Please see your doctor.
Hi Arleen,
Welcome to the asthma forum. I see you joined Med help this month.
Owl197 asks a good question. What kind of inhaler are you using?
I think you mentioned in your post that " you started a new inhaler
and ended up using them both an estimated 6 treatments." By both
do you mean two separate asthma medications ? You ask could the
inhaler overuse be the cause? First of all, you overused the asthma
meds big time. I have never heard of heartburn being one of the side
effects of asthma meds but that doesn't mean that cannot happen.
I have asthma myself and have had asthma for over 10 years. My
doctor has prescribed two different asthma medications for me to
control my asthma. I take an asthma medication called Pulmicort
twice a day. One puff in the morning and one puff at night before I
go to bed. I also take an asthma medication called Bricanyl which
my doctor says take as needed. The Pulmicort is my main asthma
medication. I have to rinse my mouth after using the Pulmicort .
The official name is Pulmicort Turbuhaler. What I like about this
asthma medication is that it is easy to use. It also has a little window
at the side of the turbuhaler, when a little red line shows in the window,
it means you need to buy another Pulmicort Turbulaler. When I was
first diagnosed with asthma, my doctor at the time showed me two
different types of inhalers. I choose the turbulater type because it
seemed like it would be easier to use and it is. You said you used
6 treatments at one time. That is way to much asthma medication at
one time. I would suggest going back to your doctor. Call your doctor's
receptionist, explain the situation, ask for an immediate appointment with
your doctor as I consider this most concerning. I wish you well. Eve
Hi Arleen,
Can I ask what kind of inhaler are you using? I've never come across heartburn as a side effect, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be the cause. When you were prescribed the inhaler, were you shown the correct way to use it?
