Does anyone know of any inhaler that does not make your heart race?

If you are having problems with your heart race see if you can switch your steroid from advair to flovent. Advair will make your heart race. It sent my sisters through the roof.

I found that switching from atrovent to xopenex helped a lot. I know longer feel like my heart is beating 200 bpm and feel much less shakier.

Hope this helps,

This pranayam will relax the heart and improve the lung function.Do it for more than 20 minutes, and you should start to feel the benefit after 21 days.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Anulom Vilom pranayam  –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Advair is a combination medication.  It has an ihaled corticosteroird (ICS) and a long acting beta2 agonist (LABA - long acting broncho dilater).  It is not recommended that you stop taking the ICS all at once.  It is a steroid, although it doesn't have the same side effects of oral steroids.  The ICS is really the primary treatment for asthma.

After you are feeling better, you can discus trying an ICS only medication like Asmanex or Alvesco with your doctor.  This would eliminated the LABA which typically cause the jittery, rapid heart rate side effects people object to.  Depending on how severe your asthma is or how reactive you are, you may be able to control your asthma with allergy medication (possible including shots) and an ocassionally use of your rescue inhaler.

Hoping you feel better soon.

HI, welcome to the board.

Not really.  The best and most affective inhalers are stimulants and will cause your heart to race.  Anticholenergics like atrovent and Spireva have mild broncho dilating affects, but they are not nearly as good as albuterol or the long-acting beta2 agonists (long acting broncho dilaters).  The best thing for you to do is to take controller meds on schedule as directed by your doctor limiting your need for the rescue inhaler.

Feel better.
