Please help, dry non productive wheezy cough

Hi,
Hoping someone can help.

I have had a dry non productive wheezy cough for roughly 9 months.
No shortness of breath, I am 19 years old and  very fit.

For roughly 5-6 months the cough was annoying but manangable,
Some days would be better than others but freon analysis there seems
No cause for why.

I visited the doctors and was prescribed with hayfever tablets as
I have had very bad hay fever for the past couple of years
But that had no effect.

I then when back and subsequently recieved the blue inhaler
And the brown inhaler they both only ended up making it slightly
Worse (coughing more frequently) .

I got a cold over Christmas which included a chesty cough
Which ofcourse aggravated the situation!
Once that had cleared up I found the underlying wheezy cough
Did not go back to how it was but slightly worse,

Over the course of the 9 months I have tried everything from
Honey and lemon to peppermint tea and can say Nothing seems to
Effect it either way!

Sorry for such a long explanation but if anyone could give any help
It would be greatly appreciated!

Oh no!!  I'm sooooo sorry about that - but glad you were able to find the problem quickly.

Sometimes when someone is in the emergency room they are looking for pneumonia and gross abnormalities - smaller problems might be missed.

I'm glad you kept bugging them - hopefully everything is resolved soon - let me know how you are doing!

Thanks Tammy, You were right . I saw my doctor he ordered ct scan top to bottom , results were  a growth 31mmx12mm in or on my left upper lung was found. He sent an urgent e-mail to the hospital Oncology dept.for cancer
evaluation. what I don't understand before the ER made me use these puffers
they took a chest x-ray and I was told nothing wrong with my lungs, then 20 days later I have a tumor? Something does not add up!!!
Thanks again , take care

To test completely you should have full pulmonary function test and a methacholine challenge.  This would give a full idea of what shape your lungs are in and if asthma is the correct diagnosis.

It is weird that the blue inhaler doesn't help at least a bit.  How long did you try the brown inhalerÉ The increased coughing could have been from reducing the inflammation to the point you were able to move some of the mucus around (it can be so sticky that it seems like a dry cough).

There can be other causes of a dry cough - sinus drainage, GERD or acid reflux, or allergies that didn't respond to the meds you tried.

Try to continue eating healthy (lots of omega 3 and antioxidants will help) and exercising.  Hopefully you and your doctor can get to the bottom of this, let us know if there are any other questions!
