Please keep of watch on what all food or what all materials lead to breathlessness, and avoid all those.
We didn't realize that a huge trigger was our pet cat even though my young daughter at the time didn't test positive! It wasn't until our lovely pet passed away at the age of 20 that her asthma get much better. So I guess I'd limit pets to hypoallergenic maybe if you are thinking of getting one.

I have had SEVERE asthma since I was 2 years old. I am now 53
Forget about the cleaning of rugs, floors and everything else that has to do with dust. UNLESS your child is SOOOO allergic. DONT FORGET ABOUT MOLD AND MILDEW...my asthma is triggered by mold, and it can hide in places you dont think about...Do you have a basement.... a dehumidifyer is a must...mold grows on paper, boxes, leather, cement walls, etc.
I have been on life support 3 times because of asthma attacks. I actually went to ER on an ambulance that had no A/c and telling them ( well eakked out the word HURRY) and they didnt have the siren on...ASTHMA ATTACKS ARE SERIOUS
Most of my recent attacks are brought on by colds and lung infections( from being around others). My home is always clean ( I am a neat freak) ...stress is another reason, but attacks just happen.
Back in the 60s as a young girl...medicine for asthma was almost non exsistent, lots of hospital time.
For the last 10 years I have been using Advair ...its my wonder drug...havent been to ER since ( use to be there 3-4 times a month)
Thank your lucky star that asthma medicine is better...and watch your child carefully. Check her breath with a moniter...its free ask your Dr. for one
My daughter is 13 and has had severe asthma since she was born. Like Bulldogmom said, tearing out the carpets, I have notice hardwood floors have helped alot and just having small rugs here and there that you can throw in the wash. Also NO smoking in the house...Even smoke that creates when cooking something and it burns a little bit, i have to send my daughter outside or in another room for a bit. Especially burnt popcorn! Definitely mold and dust are a given. Using the swiffer dust wand is really easy and helpful, great for doing the slats on the ceiling fans. There is a pump spray that comes with it, and spray it on the cloth and wipe it. Switched all aerosol sprays to trigger sprays for cleaning supplies. No strong perfume either...that was a big trigger for my daughter, but each child is different, so be observant of what triggers her, keep a journal, that helps. Also with the warm weather coming, be sure to get an air conditioner and keep it clean. This was mandatory for my daughter, as the humidity is horrible for her. If you take her outside in the winter be sure she is bundled good and a blanket over her face, as the ice cold air is also a trigger. Basically just being observant of what triggers her, you'll figure it out, you are already doing a great job by asking for advice! take care and stop again if you have any questions! patti
my son is 10 and has severe asthma, we have torn out the carpet, cleaned the vents, removed any walls that may have had mold inside them. Watch with any cleaners, or sprays. Things like that until you know her triggers. good luck!
i have asthma too and sometimes house dust can make it trigger, so make sure to keep your house as clean as possible especially her bedroom.
