ABA therapy, good or bad?

I'm learning as I go. I have had my child in various things such as occupational therapy where he worked on social skills.  I never did ABA but am wondering about it.  Many autistic adults talk about it as being abuse.  That restrictive teaching that you have to be a certain way and constant redirection as kids/teens act themselves is damaging.  And that ABA leads to masking which can lead to burn out and depression. What are your thoughts on ABA therapy? If it was helpful or damaging?

ABA is best for non social kids mainly 3-5 years to old and the counselors are only college students.

Actually, I've now learned a good deal. ABA is considered abusive by adults who were put through it in their youth. I'm sure it depends on who you have doing it but in general, I'd stay away from it.
