26 month daughter Please reply!!

My daughter is 26 months old and refuses to walk.  She has walked, and can ride a bigwheel great but refuses to walk.  She also does not say many words.  She babbles and knows what is what but is delayed in her speech. Loves to play with others too. We have visited many specialists and are doing pt, everyone just says she will take off when she is ready.  Has anyone dealt with similar issues?  If so, or know anyone who has please reply.  Looking for some new ideas or just info to put my mind at ease.  Thank you.

The best thing you can do for her is to take her to ped. neurologist.  They will tell you exactly what is causing these problems.  Then you can get started on therapy.  I can't tell you what it is because it could be a number of things.  But you really need to find a pediactruic neurologist under your insurance plamn and get her in for an appt.  The sooner the better.  Let me know what they say.  Good Luck and god bless

do u think it's a sensory issue?  that is odd she did walk but now won't? only thing i can think of i read "the out of sync child" recently..some of the kids in the book refused to walk on certain surfaces
(b/c of sensory issues) Also, if she had some auditory sensory things also going on that could be the delay in speech?is she sensitive to noises? it's hard to say b/c she is still young but if u find a good OT they can diagnose SPD if it's there...good luck

My daughter now refuses to climb the stairs or go down the stairs, even though she was doing it just fine until recently.  She used to go quickly up and down all by herself and now all she wants is me to carry her around the stairs.  I'm not sure if she's backtracking on her skills or if she's afraid of the stairs now.  So, I kind of understand why you are worried about the not walking issue.  Maybe there's a reason she doesn't want to walk, whether fear or maybe something hurts in her legs or maybe she doesn't like the feel of her feet on the ground anymore.  She used to walk just fine?  Or maybe she's losing some of her motor control and can't walk anymore?  You should totally go to her pediatrician if you haven't.  Maybe the pediatrician will say something the specialists didn't.  Or say the same thing.  I guess bribing her to walk wouldn't be a good thing cuz then she'd want the bribe every time she walks.  How heavy is your 26 month old?  If I had to carry my 25 month old everywhere, I think I would break my back as she's 32 pounds (37 inches tall so she's not fat, she's just really tall and big).  Invest in a good stroller, I guess.  Umbrella strollers are small and portable.  Or I guess just make her drive the big wheel around the house.  I'd be proud of her for being able to do that.  My daughter can't ride on a bigwheel or a tricycle or even those small ride ons yet.  Hasn't mastered the push thing with her feet or the pedal thing either.  We keep trying.  That is pretty good your daughter can do the bigwheel, so definitely be proud of her for that.
