Auto Immunce Hepatitis

I have had Auto Immune Hepatitis since 03-06. I have been on Predinsone  since may of 2006. I have problems sleeping at nite. I would like to know if it is safe to take Ambien only the nite before I have to go to work. I have been taking Xanax, but my doctor wants to stop that. I only take xanax the nite before work, or I am usually up and down most of my nites.

I have AIH along with PBC (Primary Biliary Cirrhosis, another autoimmune liver disease).  I take Ambien every single night.  Otherwise, I would get no sleep at all.  Recently, I switched to the generic Ambien (zolpidem) as it is much cheaper under my insurance plan.  It works great, and my hep has no problem with my taking it.  I still don't sleep through the night, but at least I sleep through most of it.

Hi there.  I take 25 mg of benadryl at night.  My Dr. said it is safe for me to go up to 50 mg of benadryl at night.  I take the tablets.  Works like a charm.  I to have autoimmune hepatitits.  So if it is safe for me, it should be for you.  This was my Dr's recommendation to my sleeping problems!  Good Luck!!!
