Positive ANA 1:160

Hello,

My name is Diana, I'm 28 years old and I've always been healthy.

I went to my doctor to ask for routine blood tests, but since I'm a little bit hypochondriac I've also asked her the ANA test. She didn't find it necessary but accepted my request.

All my blood tests came out normal, except ANA which was positive with a 1:160 titre.

I showed the results to my doctor and she told me that there was nothing wrong with me, however, she performed the Schirmer's test on me with a result of 9 mm.

I'd like to know if this amount of tear discards the Sjörgen syndrome. I'd also like to know whether people with this syndrome have difficulties crying. I cry a lot... I should say the tested lasted only 3 minutes and I was wearing contacts.

I'm extremely anxious and afraid of this situation. Could you please tell me how likely it is to have an autoimmune disorder with this ANA value?

My RCP and dsDNA are within the normal range and very low.

Thanks for your reply. I've read your comment and yes, I'm indeed somewhat hypochondriac. However, what's worrying me so much this is the fact that once my doctor saw the positive ANA (though she didn't think it was a big deal), she requested a batch of anti-body blood tests, known as ENA (Extractable Nuclear Antigen Antibodies). These antibodies are specific to a myriad of autoimmune disorders.

Once again I'd like to thank you for your prompt reply. By the way, do you work in any field related to autoimmune disorders?

Hey diana83,
I am glad you said it first, therefore I won't come across as rude
or inconsiderate by saying it. That you are a bit hypochondriac, that is.
The tests that you mentioned would be only indicative of Sjörgen's when the readings are well beyond the normal ranges. This is not the case here.
Also may I suggest that you consider Hypnotherapy, one of the best ways
to overcome your Hypochondria. Your life will become more fluid and your energy will flow toward higher and greater levels of consciousness.
Indirectly you will achieve better health as a bonus!
