Positive ANA symptoms?

Hi all,

Firstly sorry if this isnt the appropriate forum,i'm a newbie and wasnt sure.

So i suffer from chronic itching of my skin, I was told that sometimes a high ANA level will make your skin itchy. My ANA is 1:1160,but i haven't been diagnosed with any auto-immune disorders (I have a low whit blood cell count too if that is in any way significant) .  The itching of my skin has been relieved recently with medication, however today i got a burning sensation all over my legs. They were extremely Painful to touch and the they felt extremely hot, it was such an intense pain,i had to put ice on them.  Does anyone know is that a symptom of having positive ANA ? Or what it could be?

Thanking you!

tbj1985, you've got to be kidding me!

Wow, I was told I would probably never hear this  medical label  again!
I got to know my late mom's hematologist- She was also teaching at the University Hospital at the time-  and she had diagnosed her with cyclical Leucopenia (it's the same disorder I think) as my mom was experiencing
fever and some other symptoms just about every month, but just for a few days!
So she explained to me that it was an idiopathic condition and extremely rare, that chances of me hearing about it again, were zero!
Well! Here we are.

Anyway, the significant fact was its cyclical nature.
What did you find in NiaF's case cyclical, to suspect cyclical neutropenia?
Just curious.

Cheers!

Check out cyclic neutropenia... I have it an experience some of the same symptoms. It's a rare disorder when it's not from medications ect. But mines genetic/idiopathic so it can just pop up.

Hi Niko,

I don't have any test results, everything is in my other house unfortunately. I've been anemic for as long as i remember.I get quite bad acid reflux and suffer from stomach ulcers from time to time. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by traumatic events? Like physical trauma or psychological? I haven't had any physically traumatic events ( like accidents or anything) but I have had some psychological trauma as a child.

I woke up this morning again with that intense burning sensation all over my body. Once I get paid, I think I will visit my GP..just to check it out.

Kindest regards.

Hi Niaf.

Hmm, it's a vicious circle: low immune function (from variable possible causes)
--> low white cells---> low immune function---> infections and other disease processes.

Do you have any test results?
Do you know of any deficiencies?
How is your digestive & G/I health now?
Any traumatic events ?

Hi,

Thankyou for replying. Yes,you're right, that is a typo,I added an extra 1, my apologies, it should read 1:160.

I suffer from depression, deliberate self-harm and bulimia, however i left my treatment center in 2012, and havent recieved any therapy since. I consider myself for the most part 'recovered'. I am technically speaking 'underweight', but I personally don't think it is an issue, I live a healthy lifestyle . I didn't even consider this to be in any way significant to my physical health?

In regards to previous medical issues : I had asthma as a child, and still use a ventalin inhaler on occasion. I also had viral meningitis last year. And i am taking an anti-histamine to calm my itching on a daily basis.

Sorry if none of that has any relevance. But you think it could be causing my white cell count to be low?

kindest regards.

Hi Niaf and welcome to the forum.

No need to be sorry. This Community is the right one, or one of the right ones.
It is too early to consider A/I issues.

A positive ANA-I suspect yours is a typo and it should read 1:160, but please correct me if I'm wrong- is just 1 criterion out of many, for a diagnosis. The only one according to most labs close to what you posted would be 1:1280.  The testing is conducted in a series of dilutions of the blood sample to detect antinuclear antibodies starting at 1:40 and continuing to 1:80, 1:160, 1:320, 1:640, 1: 1280 and so on until none is detected.
The last one before that, is what's indicated on your lab report as positive.
At 1:160 ,  most doctors will probably not consider this positive for any A/I condition.

And , yes, your low white cell count, is very significant.
It could be caused by a number of things, including emotional issues and stress, poor lifestyle and diet, nutritional deficiencies and other factors, however, the main indication of this (leucopenia) is a suppressed immune system, which is enough to explain your chronic itchiness and now your
recent symptoms of burning sensations, pain, etc., regardless of any diagnosis.

If this resonates with you, please send me an overview of your dietary habits, lifestyle, previous medical issues, traumas, accidents, surgeries,
medications, relationships, fitness levels, stress and anxiety and anything at all that might be helpful.

You are still so young and you can do a lot of things to change all this, before it progresses to anything more serious.

Blessings.

Niko
