Wishing you better luck than I had!  Naproxen did not seem to help me.  I was diagnosed 8/07 and am now on Plaquenil and Methotrexate.  It can take up to 3 months to know if these drugs help.  Still trying to get the dosages and combination of drugs right and may be going to Enbrel or Humira soon.

Naproxen is a very mild anti- inflammatory, one of the first line drugs they try, if it isn't working I would be asking for something stronger....for sure asap...and as someone else said, make sure to take it with food as it can burn your stomach...I would say from experience as I have had RA for 25 years now, there are better drugs available now for RA and upfront.....not way down the road....  I am on Humaria injections which work very well for me, not that you are that advanced in your disease, but I am....and it is working for me, I was also on Enbrel injections for 5 years before this drug now.

Naproxen is just ibuprofen, which is Motrin and Aleve.  I would think Celebrex would help a lot more than Naproxen.  It can't hurt to ask for it.  Naproxen didn't do anything for me, except hurt my stomach.  The Celebrex helped a lot, right away.

Hello Shirl000, I was just diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis a few weeks ago and have been on naproxen for about a month now. It helps with the pain and some days are better than others. I went to a rheumatoid dr and she gave me other medications to take along with the naproxen to help alleviate the pain. Hope this helps and you're feeling better.
