tingling hands

i'm a mom who developed symptoms of postpartum thyroiditis after having my 3rd child.  I let these symptoms (hair loss, weight gain, premature graying hair, loss of lower 1/3 of eyebrow hairs, sensitivity to cold and depression, irritability, memory loss) go unchecked for 2 years.  I was then diagnosed with hashimotos thyroiditis and have spent the last year getting regulated with just t4.  I still did not feel like myself a month before finally being regulated so i was put on anti-depressants and had blood drawn to test for anything else that might be wrong with me.  I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia and low vitamin D.  I now take a daily multi vitamin, D3, and calcium along with levoxyl and anti-depressants.  I had weekly and then monthly and now once every 3 months B12 shots.  I still feel like I"m missing something.  I wake up frequently at night b/c my hands are tingling and numb.  It is a very disconcerting feeling and has been happening for the past 5-6 months but never before that.  My other weird symptoms are new allergies to rabbits and pollen of some sort in past year, muscle soreness, occasional carpal tunnel, ecxema on one big toe, a rash that is constantly on either side of my nose in the creases at the bottom, red bumps on the back of my arms, inability to lose weight despite trying both diet and exercise (a lot of weight is around my middle), an ability to gain 10 lbs in one weekend and not lose it, occasional hives when cold, dry skin, coughing up white "curds", gritty eyes, and i get red lines across my entire eye when I go to the movies.  Strange but true..Anyone have any ideas about what else I could have?  I just don't feel like myself...like I'm missing something in my diagnosis.   I basically diagnosed myself with everything and went in asking my dr. for specific tests and she kept saying I'd feel better with exercise or once the T4 kicked in so I really feel like I need to be my own advocate.

Hi, I just read that you had raynauds desease have you had one hand going in the opposite colour apart from the finger tip changes? I get the palms changing one will be bluish
the other white. Last sundau my fingers were purple but more in one hand than the other. I wish there was a site here just for raynauds.

I too was diagnosed with hashimoto's. But initially what brought me to the dr.s office was tingling and numbness in my hands and fingers. I was first diagnosed with Raynauds syndrom then the test came back saying I had Hashimoto's as well. I have since been put on a blood pressure medication for the Raynauds and I haven't had any issues with it. Might want to suggest the raynauds to your doctor.

Maybe it is the B-12 thing for the first post. Glad to hear from Kmac23 that t-3 works for you as well. It did help with depression. This disease is chronic for me though. Sometimes Im low thyroid sometimes I have high thyriod (its frusterating) I stay on the same dose everyday unless the dr changes it. I even had a Dr think that I was taking too much levoxyl, but my body does it on its own. I know not to take too much it freaks my body out, I retain water and everything, the last thing I want to do is get fatter. I just gained 13 lbs. Im 180 now. Im 5'7

I have Hashimoto's and get the tingling which I think is low B12.  If you have PA then I would guess your B12 is not high enough.

Also suggest adding T3 to your meds and then maybe the depression will lift.  It worked for me when T4-only meds didn't.  All the head stuff went with T3.

Best wishes.

This is Deanne from Everett Washingon. I have had Hashimotos for 9 1/2 yrs (probably longer)but that is when I had total thyroid failure.

I had to have t-3 added and that made a difference. I take 10 mcg a day. About 10 % of the thryroid patients have a problem with the t-4 converting to t-3 in the brain. The vitamin D sounds like something

Remember Hashimostos is a Auntoimmune disease (anitbodies that attact your thyroid) and could go with other autoimmune diseases. (most the time does) Just a thought. If your ANA is possitive they will still blame it on the Hashimotos. It gets very frusterating. Dont give up.. I think the Drs could be missing something.

What is your B12 blood level. You may need B12 shot more often then once every 3 months. I have been fighting pernicious anemia for over a year now and when I go to shots once a month everything falls apart for me. I went back on daily and then weekly for a while and now I am on every 2 weeks until some one can figure out where all that B12 is going. I now have migranes without headaches with this B12 problem which just complicates matters even more. Hang in there.

I had a total thyroidectomy 18 months ago, and after surgery had something similar occur - I felt shaky and my hands and feet would go tingly and numb. Turned out to be hypocalcemia. This can be diagnosed fairly simply by a blood calcium test. If your body has not been metabolizing vitamin D effectively, this would be a logical jump, as the body needs vitamin D to absorb and use calcium.
