Back, neck, shoulder and arm pain.

Started a few years ago at work, when I worked third shift at a Sam's Club.  I was lifting up a bar stool to a display and felt a pop in my shoulder, nothing much, I kept working.   As time went on, I kept getting more and more pain and right arm started to feel cold.  Then my pinky and ring finger  started to go numb.  They sent me to a doctor but they just thought it was pulled strained muscles etc.

When it is rested it is fine, more I use my right arm, my right shoulder muscles start to get tired and sore fast, then it starts to shoot down my right arm, then my pinky and ring finger start to go numb.  This has been going on for years and not going away.  And is a trigger spot on my spine just below the neck, fells like a constant bruise.  I feel it is nerve related in my neck area.  First time i went to Physical Therapy he cracked my neck when I had massive pain and was instant relief.

I had physical therapy and seen several doctors, to no avail.  They finally said I had fibromyalgia, got cut off from workmens comp cause they not cover it, then got laid off.  Hopefully someone has a idea so I try to get my life going again.

Yeah had a MRI, x-rays, all came back normal, I read about Ulnar Nerve irritation, but that usually seems to start at the elbow and mine seems to start at my right shoulder, at least where the pain starts.  Sometimes when it starts it feels like something pops and a chemical of some sort gets released that causes all the muscles in that area to act up, probably pinches some nerves which then effects my right arm and it gets worse.   I know I am no expert, but what it kinda feels like.

Hello Brian,

Welcome to the community. I am glad you found us and took time to post - but I'm sorry to hear about your on-going pain.

Have you had an MRI of your shoulder - or cervical spine? Considering the long term sx (symptoms) I think that's the logical next step. All the treatments up to this point appear to be directed at a muscle injury - which should have healed with treatment at this point.

You may be correct that your pain originates in the cervical spine. Pinky and ring finger numbness is often related to an Ulnar Nerve irritation or entrapment. Sometimes the ulnar nerve gets compressed at the wrist, beneath the collarbone, or as it comes out of the spinal cord in the neck. If not treated it can become quite a problem.

I encourage you to locate a good neurologist. You may require a referral from your PCP - which is the logical place to begin. be sure to have all your medical records. This will depict all the treatments that have been tried - unsuccessfully - up to this date. Obviously you don't want to have to start over. Be assertive and get some answers.

I wish you the best of luck. Please let us know how you are doing.

Take Care,
~Tuck
