Back trouble after sleeping

Hi. I'm a 21 year old female. I've been having some issues and I was hoping for some advice

The last couple days have been very painful for me. I wake up in agonizing pain, coming from my back. I've had pulled muscles before, and this feels different. It almost feels like my spine needs to pop, but I can't. And then it gets worse. The muscles around my spine will start to spasm and throb. My boyfriend put his hand on the spot when it was happening, but he couldn't feel anything moving.

The pain acts weird. It doesn't hurt too much when I stand up and move around. It hurts the most when I try and reposition myself on the bed. I've tried sleeping in different positions, propping up my knees or back when I sleep, and using a heating pad which has worked very well on muscle pain in the past.

This pain makes me audibly cry out. It wakes me up. I can't lay in bed for more than 5 hours. I have some hydrocodine left over from a past injury, and I've been taking that to try and get some relief. It takes almost an hour to kick in enough for me to be able to function.

My father said he had an issue like this a few years ago. His problem was a vertebra he broke, but he didn't know how.

It's Sunday, so I won't be able to get into a doctor today. I'm scared to sleep, because I don't want to wake up in pain again. I'm exhausted. Please, does anyone know what could be going on?

Hey there! Because you describe this feeling of needing to 'POP' I would recommend visiting a chiropractor as that feeling you describe sounds similiar to subluxation. Sometimes gravity ***** and you might have some vertebrae out of alignment. A fracture is not likely in your age unless you had a recent significant injury like a high impact injury or car crash but most chiropractors will do xrays before doing adjustments to rule out those types of things.
The back muscles will often spasm and tense up around the area of pain. If you see a chiro they often include therapeutic stuff like ultrasound therapy to loosen the stiff muscles, adjustments to realign the vertebra, There is this bed I call the "rolling bed" which helps to align and stretch out your spine gently. Some people don't like Chiropractors but I have used them all my life because I have scoliosis and often get subluxations secondary to poor posture or sleeping habits and such.  THey're usually relieved and feel a lot better after a couple of adjustments

Hi,

A normal back pain usually goes better in few days. It can be of some wrong sleeping pose. Anxiety and stress can also sometimes cause tension in your muscles, which can lead to pain in your back.

The best option is to carry on with your normal daily activities, keep active and take painkillers to relieve the symptoms. If still pain persists see an orthopedist.

Thanks,
