Help! I can hardly walk! Severe back pain!

I am using my phone to post this since I cannot sit up but for a few minutes at a time. I cannot walk but for a minute before I get excrutiating pain down my left leg. I went to an urgent care center yesterday, and the Dr. basically told me to loose 30 to 40 pounds, start walking, then if I still hurt then get an MRI done.  My mom came by today to get my 3 yr old son because I cannot watch him. She offered to take me to the emergency room , but I said no. I'm afraid they will tell me the same thing. The Dr did give me some pain mess, but they hardly help. What should I do?

I know the feeling. I have had back pain since I was 16 (33 years). I have seen several doctors and they all believe I'm just after narcotics. Narcotics are NOT an option for me. There are days when I can only crawl - other days when my legs "forget" how to move. I have decided that doctors are useless unless you have a huge bank account. :/

thanks for the reply. I cannot believe some people call themselves dr. and act that way. I believe mine is feeling a little better. Maybe it's true what they say about it getting worse before it gets better. Hope you get to feeling better also.

Gosh I'm so sorry that you are in such pain. Doctors can be so unsympathatic. How the heck does he expect you to get exercise when you can't hardly walk.  I just had an MRI and it basicly showed nothing except for a slight bulgeing disc around t4.

Well at least you have some pain meds, they should help a little.  My doctor cut me off and also told me to get some exercise, not to loose wieght because he has actually ordered me to gain weight so I can build some muscle in my back, but how the hell can I exercise when I can barely walk 5 minutes before the pain has me dropped to the ground.

I thought about going to urgent care today too but I don't feel like dragging out the whole story and then have them think I'm just after drugs.

So this is what I am going to do today. Lay in bed and watch t.v. and try to keep my mind off of it.  Why don't you try the same.. Heck it can't hurt.
