When you say you had injections, what kind?  Have you tried or looked into Prolotherapy?  My daughter suffered from debilitating back and hip pain that caused pain down her leg and difficulty walking.  She had a herniated disc also.  The surgeon, of course, wanted to do surgery.  At first I was considering it because I didn't want to see her in pain anymore, but I am glad I changed my mind.  Her chiropractor convinced me not to do it.  The chiropractics and PT helped her only slightly and temporarily.  After a lot of reasearch and prayer we found out about Prolotherapy and found an excellent doctor who does the procedure.  She just had her third treatment and most likely won't need another.  We believe that her herniation was caused initially by doing frog-jumps in cheerleading.  The hip issues came into play because her ligaments were overstretched and weren't holding her hip in place or her spine.  The shifting of her pelvis in turn caused a bursitis on the front of her pelvis.  Hard to explain how we discovered a lot of this over time, but if you haven't looked into Prolotherapy - please do.  It is different than cortisone or pain injections entirely.

Often the ligaments that keep the spine from shifting have become overstretched which can cause the herniated disc(s) to affect the surrounding nerves even more.  The ligaments can become kind of like a rubber band that has been overstretched, and the Prolotherapy actually causes them to become strengthened and shortened again keeping the disc(s) and spine from affecting those nerves.  I know this is long, but I am so thankful to have found this procedure and to see my daughter get her life back.  I hope this somehow helps you.  I pray you find relief whatever you choose to do.

Do you have MRI scan check?
Without physical examination,It's hard to know which treatment option is good for you.
So go to see orthopaedic doctor for consulation.Don't rush go to alternative medicine.
Take care!

My Chiropractor told me that ice is the best! Ice backs every 2-3 hours... but only lay them on you for 15-20 minutes MAX.

I guess the ice is supposed to reduce swelling and relax the muscles.

And I would get a second opinion... I hear surgery is the LAST thing you want to do, if you don't have to have it.

And most people don't have to do it.

Ive heard that the body is supposed to naturally heal itself.
Once the inflammation around the nerve goes away, the nerve will not be spasming.
I'd give it a little more time.

I hear it can take up to a month for a back to heal.

Best of luck.
