Low Back Pain

Hello....

This is my first post since I just joined today. I try to walk or jog daily but a few weeks ago I started getting pain in my low back (left side) that also causes some pain to my groin and left thigh. This pain comes and goes but depending on how I bend, turn the pain will always return. There are days that I can't exercise because of the discomfort. Any ideas as to what I did and what I need to do?

Hello there,
I too am from the same area.  One thing I will recommend to you, (since I have some back and leg issues) is I would bypass the Chiro altogether. They will treat you several times over several weeks and months with only diagnosing you through an xray.  You need an MRI for a proper diagnosis. A good back ortho can help you.  It may be something that injections may help. There are several good back doctors in St. Louis.

I'm thinking its a bulging disc as well since I have the pain shooting down my leg. I've been looking into some chiropractic methods that have lead to successful recovery from bulging discs. I'm going have my md check me first before I take any action. Thanks for the feedback.

I'm not for sure but my BF was just told he has a bulging disc in his lower back... he had the same problems you are having... but his got VERY bad. It did take a MRI to find this info out so go get one and ask about that also... some doctors thought he had a kidney stone bc of it being in his lower back but when they didnt find one they sent him on his way until his internal med. doctor looked at him... he put him into the hospital for a MRI and it was for sure 100% the disc prob! Hope that helps you out! Good luck!

Hi,

Thanks for responding to my questions. I do agree that I should seek md attention. I've decided to layoff the jogging for now and I hope through rest and limited exercise will give the back time to heal.

thanks

HI,
With the symptoms you describe there could be a number of things going on, I am not an md and cannot speculate, could be just as benign as a muscle strain.  The fact that you are "pounding the pavement" though can be tough on your spine etc.  If I were you I would see my md, explain my symptoms and perhaps your doctor would recommend along with his physical exam and assessment some diagnostic tests such as x-rays or MRI to assess for any possible injuries.  Perhaps you can lay off the jogging for a bit while you see the md and also to give your body a rest and see what happens then.  Generally exercise is good for our bodies but if we are injured in any way even if it is as mild as a strain in back or groin, we need to rest and let our bodies repair.

Also for future reference if you are going to jog again when you feel better make sure you have the proper foot wear, a good walking or running shoe.  Or alternatively there are ways of getting aerobic benefits with little to no impact on joints.

good luck
