MRI of cervical spine

I had an MRI of the cervical spine last week.  The MRI report reads (among other things) in the body of the report, "There is mild degenerative desiccation and narrowing of the intervertebral discs of the cervical spine."  Under "Impressions", it reads, "Mild degernative discogenic cisease of the cervical spine with small disc herniations at c4-c5 and c6-c7 causing mild impression of the ventral aspect of the thecal sac, without spinal canal stenosis or neural compresive changes".

Can anyone shed some light on what this means?  The MRI was done in response to a recent diagnosis of Chiari Malformation and symptoms including numbness, tingling, weakness.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Basically, you have mild degenerative (weakening) disk disease in your cervical spine and two small disc herniations (one at c4-c5 and the other at c6-c7).  These problems are not uncommon with Chiari Malformations.  The mild degenerative disk disease in combination with the Chiari's is probably causing this numbness, tingling and weakness.

Yes, you should have the rest of your spine assessed/checked, especially with a diagnosis of Chiari's.

You can also post in the Chiari Malformation Forum and the Neurology Forum if you have not done yet.

In addition to the above question, I'm also wondering whether I should have the rest of my spine looked at.  Thanks, again.
