Neck Pain

I was diagnosed with C5 &C6 bulging discs back in Jan 2008. The  orthopedic Dr. said that he would not recommend any type of suregery/treatment. I have been taking four (200mg) ibuprofen every am & every pm. After taking medication it does relieve some pain but not all. Without medication pain level is above 10, after medication pain level is 9. My pain is so severe that it appears to lock the turning of my neck to the right. I am asking for any help regarding if there is exercises for this type of problem. My mornings after waking are the worse for me. I have been sleeping with 2 pillows under my legs, flat on my back, and 1 pillow under my head but this doesn't seem to be helping either. Is there any help for me?

I agree a muscle relaxer will help u but you may need to see a neurologist they will send you for a mri to be able to tell you if these disc are compressing the spinal cord I personallt would not recommended surgery as I had it in 2001 and I am having more problems worse now then before the surgery also ask about a non inflamatory drug that may help to relieve some inflammation. Write me back let me know how u r doing.

My neck locks up on me. I have a pillow that one of my kids got me at Wal Mart. It cradles your neck. That helps. I find that heat helps relieve some of the tight feeling. Did they prescribe any kind of muscle relaxer? When mine gets real bad sometimes I take one of those. I used to wrap a bath towel around my neck to help support it but I have since gotten a soft collar. IF I think of anything else I will write later.
Hope some of that helps. the pillow really does make a difference when I sleep. You can try rolling a small towel to cradle your neck and give it some supprt.
