Prolapsed Disc and Withdrawing from Tramadol

I am suffering with a prolapsed disc pressing on the nerve and currently awaiting an operation, I have been trying to cut down on tramadol as it is just not suiting me, but I have now realised that I have done it too quick, I have also been taking Co-codamol, diazapam, volterol and amitriptiline. All apart from diazapam (still taking) I have cut down too quick, I have been for 4 days suffering with nausea, pain in the neck and respiratory area and have fear of falling over when I stand up.  Please could you tell me how long this will last as I am now feeling like you're dammed if you take pain killers and your dammed if you don't.  Help!!

ps. my op is imminent (I hope)!

Hi I have been taking Tramadol otherwise know as Ultram for a period of 5 years and believe me i wish i had never started taking these horrible little things. The withdrawal as documented on many other Forums are just terrible ie hot and cold flushes, headaches, anxiety, depression and a general feeling of impending doom.  I have now reduced my intake from 500mg to 200mg in 50 mg capsules but the feelings are still quite intense.  I know it will take some time for the brain to adjust to the lower dosage and with that in mind i am determined to eventually loose my addiction to these monsters. I have total sympathy to anyone who has been prescribed this medication and know that with determination we can all rid ourselves of this horrendous painkiller and its addictive qualities  . My support and best wishes to everyone involved  Rod

Sorry to hear of your pain.  I am in the same boat.   Waiting surgery next week.  However the amitriptiline made me gain 20 pounds in 4 mth. (dont take anymore)  The diazapam I winged myself off of lowering the dose weekly not nightly, also under Drs. care.  Please be careful with the tramadol.  I have read online where so many people were dying while taking it.  I stopped!!!!!!!!   But I have found lowering dose of  meds weekly has been beneficial for me.  I do take somas and loratabs.  I got phenagrin for the nausea to help me.  Maybe ask your Dr. for a script of it.
