Question on advice please help

Hello, my back has been hurting for about 2 years and a half. It started at my neck then went to my shoulders and now its at my lower back It gets bad at times usually when i sit. I can feel the pain through my stomach and it makes me sick. I am in my mid teens. So i am guessing this is not good at all. What do you think i should do.

hey, I'm a young person too, and although I do not smoke it anymore, I have, and yes it does help with pain, but in your case, there is a cause to the pain and you should stop what is hurting you instead of ignoring it and just masking it. That's exactly what smoking pot for pain is. Some pain there isn't a good reason for it and it cannot be stopped, which medication of some form is the only way. You are young and generally healthy, so there is no reason to have to take extreme measures if there is nothing else going on. If you're smoking it anyways, smoke away, but remember moderation is the key to everything. Just look at your back as a seperate thing that needs to be fixed. the term 'medical marijuana' is usually used for chronic pain patients with no hope of fixing the cause, or cancer patients, and also used when they are nauseous and unable to eat (moreso than not), and it is prescribed from their doctor, and VERY LIMITED. What you are doing is called 'self medicating' and taking things on your own terms, very different, and uncontrolled.

Like I said, no matter what you do, please start strengthening your body, stretch more, and try to reverse the knots that are hurting-- by massage and maybe chiropractic help.

yeah, highschool killed my back, and university was worse-- because I gained a lot of weight and became weak. Strength means a lot for posture as they work hand in hand. Really try massage though! I think you could really benefit from it-- for the rest of your life!! I encourage everyone to :) There is also a chiropractor forum on here, if you wanted to extend your questions to actual doctors if  you wish. Dana

Hey,
I would suggest you speak with at least your doctor about it-- but personally, I would go see my Chiropractor. They can assess your muscles and bones a lot better than a regular family physician can (in my opinion).

I would also go for a massage. Likely its your muscles that are flaring up and causing the pain-- once once is not functioning right, it puts stress on the next attached muscles, which chain reactions to the next ones, etc. Also, posture of the back also affects the muscles. Do you do a lot of leaning forward-- like at school doing work or at a computer?Make sure you take frequent breaks standing, and sit using a chair with proper postures, shoulders back, chest forward.

I would also make sure you are doing some form of exercise every day, and routinely. Soreness in the back may also signify weakness in other muscles in your body-- like the abdominals and chest muscles. Core exercises may help with this. Exercise in general ALWAYS helps with pain, its a rule of thumb. Strengthening, stretching and posture I think will really help you tons, but get a good massage and get assessed by a Chiro to make sure nothing more major is going on. Also, if you are overweight at all, it is a good idea to consider a healthy diet and starting an exercise plan, for the same reasons as above, but also extra weight puts extra straight on our muscles, joints and bones which often can cause pain.

Its good to nab pain in the butt while you're young, and make good habits early. I find yoga classes really help me as they do stretching and strengthening and also help relax me :)

Good luck!
